Opinions on Soundblaster Live Drive? -Sound Forge - PC

Seems like a less expensive alternative to M-Audio or Echo products, but I'm sure you get what you pay for... As stated in a previous post, I'm putting together my first digital recording computer, and trying to stay under the budget my wife is letting me have...:-). The computer's pretty much done with the exception of the sound card and I/O stuff. All the analog stuff willl mix down through my board, but I need a MIDI interface and an I/O device... Other options will be gratefully explored...:-) Thanks!

If you have limited funds, there are cheaper and comparable cards out there that will easily outperform any Soundblaster card.

It's one of the cheapest yet provides pro-quality 24-bit, 96 kHz audio. I believe Sound Chaser had it for about that much. (Their online site is a little broken right now but you can give them a call.) You can also consider the Quattro or the Duo, also from M-Audio. Both act like external sound cards and go through your USB port. Edirol has USB solutions as well but the UA-5 and the DA-2496 are the only models that operate at 24-bit/96 kHz (that I know of). They're a little bit more pricey too. Always take into consideration the warranty. M-Audio and Edirol have lifetime warranties on most of their products for as long as you own them. (Speakers/monitors, cables and keyboards being the exception.) You won't get that kind of service with Creative's products. Iacobus
