Dual AMD System for Vegas Video?

StevenBell wrote on 4/8/2002, 3:12 AM
I'm planning to put together a new system for use with SONAR and VV3 and would like to know if any of you have experience with this.

Mobo - Asus AS266-D (I think I like this better than the Tyan S2460)
(Asus shows the Matrox G550, but not the G450 in its list of recommended components)
CPU - 2 x MP 1900+
Enermax whisper 431W PSU
(Is 512MB enough RAM?)

Windows XP Pro

(I already have the G450 and two M-audio delta 1010's)

Any suggestions?

Does VV3 actually take advantage of dual processor systems?? What about the new Intel Hyperthreading P4 Xeon processors, does VV3 use Symmetrical Multi-Threading?

HeeHee,

VV3 is capable of taking advantage of the benefits of a dual processor system. I haven't heard about it supporting the fancy Xeon stuff, but that's to my knowledge.

Hope this helps,

AFAIK, at this time people have only seen 50% machine useage per instance of Vegas running. So lauch two and you'll get 100% useage of CPU power on a dual system.

Steven,

I have the Asus A7M2666-D with dual MP1800. I love it and it's very fast and smooth. You can render in Vegas and do other things very easily. I use Matlab and other "dual aware" software, so the extra expense was well worth it for me. I suggest you go to the www.2cpu.com forums for endless discussions on dual processor machines. The other advise I would give regards the do-it-yourselfer. I've never before purchased an assembled system (always built myself). The sheer number of problems in the 2cpu forums made me nervous about the MPX boards and computers built from them. So many people are RMA'ing the Asus and Tyan boards. I finally had mine made for me (from Monarch Computer). I'm not recommending any particular vendor (althrough I was extremely pleased w/Monarch), but for a $60 assembly fee, I got a stable running system configured just like I wanted it. If you get a good machine with quality components, I'm certain you'll be glad you got the dually.
