Subject:Fix up low volume recording with white noise

Hello,

I don't use Sound Forge that much (Acid yes!) and hoping someone can give me some tips or point me in the right direction.

I've a bunch of dialog for a short animation and I goofed and recorded it at a low volume. It also has an underlying hum I need to minimze or get rid of. I've toyed with different tools but am not having a lot of luck. Suggestions?

Also I need to wind up with a consistant volume across the 30 or so dialog files... suggestions on doing this.

I have Vegas Audio and Acid Pro if these can help.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide!

EQ to wipe the worst of the hum, maybe a little short delay to thicken up the remaining frequencies..... ?

Try SF Noise Reduction for the hum. If that doesn't get you what you want, try the parametric EQ to notch out the back freq. (Maybe use both at once - plug-in chainer.)

For the levels: Go for the Normalize to RMS value. Be sure to select 'Use dynamic compression' in the 'If clipping occurs' box.

You could actually set this whole thing up to run in batch converter which will process all of your files using the same settings. You set the thing up, push 'go' & walk away.

Get yourself that noise reduction plug-in! That will help you take care of your hum.

For volume consistiency use the RMS normalization and multi-band compression. Using Wavehammer afterward will help you boost the sound levels if the RMS method doesn't get it for you.
