Subject:Copy /paste icons don't work

I finally got Acid Music 3.0f installed (update). I have to redo my project 'cause the install deleted the project in question (whoops). Now after installing 3.0f, the icons for copy/ paste don't work. The drop downs from edit for copy/paste work tho. I wonder what else I'll find. Thanks for the help!

I've had this same problem.
The cut/copy/paste icons on the toolbar don't work,
but the commands in the edit menu and
ctrl-x/c/v do.
I haven't worried much about it though
as I haven't had any other problems
with Acid at all.

I'm using 3.0e now but had the same
problem with 3.0c.

Would be interesting to see if there
is some simple solution to it.

A friend just mentioned that it may be due to the drivers for the video card need updating. I am sick of fixing one thing and having the fix create other problems!

Well then, welcome to the wonderful world of computers. :)

I'm not sure if this'll help any, but you might want to check out this post on icons being corrupted.

Thanks for the link to the previous post, Iacobus,
but I don't think it's a video card issue.
My icons (cut/copy/paste) will show up
all looking wonderful and correctly colored,
but when I click on one after selecting
an event, the icon disappears and the event
isn't cut, copiedm, or pasted anywhere, including the clipboard.

Now, if I right click on my selected event, choose
copy, and then go and paste it somewhere, again by right clicking,
the icons come back as if nothing had happened.

I hadn't worried about it much as the program works
absolutely fine otherwise, but now this post
has piqued my curiosity.

Anyone have any ideas.
My video drivers are current,
and it doesn't happen in any other programs,
audio or otherwise.

Thanks for any info.

You've redescribed the problen exactly! I also have no other problems with other software, so I am skeptical of the video driver solution. I have some video editing software that is touchy. So I would rather not mess with the video drivers. Any other thoughts anyone?

I have the same problems. Was wondering if it was an OS issue? I'm running on XP.

Sigh. That's a bug that will be fixed in the next version.

In the meantime, right-clicking and selecting from the context menu ought to work just fine as a workaround.

Best,
Joel

Running Windows ME.
Guess it happens in all Windows versions.
Any Win 2K folks with this problem?

Yes, unless you'd have us drain resources from future ACID development to fix this one (relatively minor) bug, and potentially pick up something new. However, please accept my sincere apology that we didn't catch it, and know that it bothers the perfectionist in me every bit as much as it does you.

Each person has their own way of interfacing with the app, and we try to test each method of interaction, but that's not always possible for every update--it looks like these toolbar buttons broke since the original 3.0 and 3.0a releases, when we had the testing resources to really pound on everything. For this editing functionality, there are three alternate methods, which you'll likely find work faster than mousing up/over to the toolbar buttons and back:
1) Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+X
2) Choosing Cut, Copy, and Paste from the context(right-click) menu
3) Menu accelerators: Alt+e (t, c, & p)

I hope you'll enjoy one of these other three methods, and that other than this one issue, your ACID experience has been mostly pleasant lately.

No, I would say that you just keep the $59.95 and forget about it. And I will anticipate that version 4.0 will have bugs too, that won't be fixed until version 5.0, etc.

For the life of me, I cannot reproduce this problem. I always have the copy and paste buttons available. Is there some magic combo that produces this problem?

FWIW, Tom, you will never come across a bug-free app. Ever. That's a pipe dream and a half. At the very least, for this problem, there is a workaround. I've personally never used the the copy and paste buttons myself. (I've been weaned on CTRL+C and CTRL+V since who knows when.)

I bet you didn't know there was a "paste repeat" and "paste insert" function, did you? But there's no button for both. There are shortcuts if you're interested. (CTRL+B and CTRL+SHIFT+V respectively.)

Not trying to start a pissing contest, but when the icons work in version 3.0a, they should work in version 3.0f. Of course no app. is totally bug free, my point was that the copy/paste function is a relatively common button to click on. And I suspect that most novice ACID users will not understand why it doesn't work in version 3.0f. I personally like to use the mouse for most functions so I don't have to shift to using the keyboard while working. So now I have to look down at the keyboard and hit cntrl V, etc. when I want to paste. Other than this, ACID is a great tool for making music.
