Subject:want to record 6-8 tracks at once

I am purchasing a mixer, mics and a sound card which has 8 inputs. I want to be able to record all 8 tracks at once. Is there a sonicfoundry (or any company for that mattter) product which can record 8 tracks at once?? I know sound forge can only handle 2 tracks.

Yes! Vegas will do the job. The only limitation on numbers of simultaneous tracks is your hardware. If you load your computer with 4 8channel cards and the processor & drives are fast enough, you can record 32 tracks at once.

If you have the full version of Sound Forge 5 (not the XP studio version), then you either have or can download Vegas Audio LE 2.0, which allows 8 tracks. This will let you get a feel for the Vegas features for free.

stienberg's CUBASE product line is the mother of all tracking software. Look at cakewalk as well.

for me the best multi track are vegas3 or protools.
