I need advice to buy a pro audio card: We need only to record one microphone, and plug the audio card to a mackie mixer (analog) to give us realtime feedback in our studio monitor speakers. we want to make the voice recording at the hi-fi posible in SoundForge, make the background music in AcidPro, apply fx, masterize the album by our self and send it to mass reproduction. So, what professional audiocard do you recomend that is compatible whit SF software? ...and what plugins do you recomend for mastering and sound-sorround fx? we work in Windows 2K SP2. Thanks |

Check out those from either M-Audio (Midiman), Echo or Terratec. They all have great choices. Iacobus |

I've been having this same problem, and no one has given me specific recommendations, I'm afraid! I need to run a couple (not more than 2-4) XLR's in, and I need to run it off of Windows 2k. I've been looking at the OmniStudio and an Aardvark (although they seem to have REALLY poor driver support)... any thoughts on either of these? Thanks, David. |

I've been using the Echo Mona card for some time and can highly recommend it. It offers four mic inputs (also suitable for line/guitar) and has all the analog and digital in/outs that you would probably need. It is excellent sonically and reasonably priced. |

go with anything by Echo. you can't go wrong. in addition you need to monitor properly. i'm using mackie HR824's to mix but the cheaper version is the Berringer flagship monitors. they were designed at mackie's EAW plant and have a lesser amp and don't have the esoteric passive raditor. good enough for about 250.00 cheaper. |

I'd like to second the recommendation for RME. Maybe the RME Digi 96/8 pad. http://www.rme-audio.com/english/digi96/digi96pa.htm It has analog I/O as well as digital I/O (s/pdif, adat) Their driver support is top. Every modern OS (w98, w2k, xp) is supported, as well as MME, Gsif, DirectX and Asio. There's now a spectrum analyser and a goniometer included - especially developed for RME products - that is imo the best software based analyser available. |
