...how to tell Sound Forge 5 not to insert a small empty space in front of and behind my selection when I save.

example: I have a mp3 from a friends band, and I want to make a loops from it. I make my selection, I make sure that the loops sounds good and flows but when I save it (as mp3) it adds a small bit of silence at the beginning and end making the loop sound really tacky.
I also tried to make it a sustaining loop from the special/edit sample menu but when i saved it and reopened it there was the same silence buffer at the beginning of the file. No matter what, when I try to save it adds that piece.

I am trying to create the loop for a flash site for my friends band so i need to make sure it is mp3 and small. (22.050 Hz, 16 bit)

Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated,

This is how MP3 works. It adds silence as you stated.

You have to save in to a non-MP3 format to avoid this.

Thanks Peter for responding, but this raises another small question,
If I save as wav can I then convert to mp3 without that problem?

Thanks Again,

No. Even if you save as an MP3 from another format like WAV, you'll still get the bit of silence at the beginning and end. It's just inherent to the MP3 format.

(Remember that, with each save as an MP3, you're compressing the file that much more and degrading the sound quality each time. Try using SF's own PCA (Perfect Clarity Audio) format. It's a lossless but compressed format. You won't be able to share the PCA file amongst other non-SF programs, but you will be able to save the end result as an MP3 if you'd like.)
