I recall reading somewhere (maybe while doing searches here?) that AcidPro 3 doesn't like XP. I'm about to upgrade my PC to a P4 with XP and am a bit worried about this. Does anyone have any experience with this ? thanks |

I have had no specific problems with it other that after disabling a bunch of services in XP Pro (you can free up 10-70MB Ram that way), Acid v3f would respond with an unknown error and then proceed working as usual. Sound Force XP seems to be a bit more prone to hiccups after tweaking XP. |

I have no error messages using ACID Pro 3.0 and Windows XP Home. I had no problems pre-tweaking, but I'd like to squeeze performance as much as possible in case it's needed. Iacobus |

Erik, How would I know which services of XP that I can stop from loading? I have run services.msc but I don't always know what the description means, and so i leave that service as is. Thanks. |

There is a nice site at www.blkviper.com/WinXP/Service411.htm wich steps through every service with recommendations. Lots of other info as well on XP. |

Go ahead and upgrade. If you have any problems Win XP it has a feature in it that allows you to run in Win 98 compatibility mode. In other words it will trick ACID 3.0 into thinking it's running in Windows 98 thus eliminating any conflicts with the XP kernel. At least thats the idea anyway. It also has Windows ME Compatibility mode as well. Hope this helps. |

Bottom line--which is better for Acid 3.0 Pro and music apps in general: XP Home or XP Professional? |

I really don't know. I would think both are aptly suited, as both versions of XP use the same kernel. XP Pro has all the features of Home and (allegedly) better security features and is geared more towards the power user, while XP Home is geared more towards the home/multimedia user. (Using XP Home myself.) You might want to check out Microsoft's page on whether XP Pro is right for you or not if you haven't done so already. I still don't have any problems to speak of. (ACID Pro 3 and Sound Forge 5 work great.) As always, make sure whatever you want to use with XP is compatible. That includes hardware as well as software. My GNX 2 guitar effects processor's interface software wasn't compatible at all with XP, so I had to wait for a beta (which works great now). Iacobus |

I also disabled a number of Services in Win XP HE, and encountered the same problems in Acid Pro 3.0f (and Sound Forge 5.0 f wouldn't load at all unless I used Win 98/ME Compatibilty Mode). The cause was disabling Terminal Services, of all things. Set it back to Automatic if you've disabled it, reboot and voila, no more error messages in Acid, and Sound Forge works perfectly without being in Compatibility Mode. |

I have Had all 3.... home, pro and corp... and it seem to work the best in corp..had lots of problems with home and pro was pretty good to but still had a few gliches...(about 4) now with corp I only have (1)... I cant seem to fix this one... buy the way if you are running a crack version of XP you will have problems.. XP is set up with security and lock mechs and Check points that lock programs to run right..some cracks will work but I don't recommend it.. Now, the problem I am haveing is during the playback of track/s as I am copying/pasting or even clicking on a spicific marker the program encouters a error and say it will now shut down.. and the ALL is lost.. I have no choice but to save about every 5-10 just in case..as you all know the program involves a lot of work!!!! dose anyone know or have a solution??? and is anyone else haveing this problems...My Win2000 did not have this problem.. only in XP. Thanks All.... Great Forum!!! |

Sounds like Pro is for some business exec who wants to wire his house like an office and run his computers remotely. Another Microshaft fantasy feature that nobody cares about. Home sounds like the way to go. What the blazes is "Corp"? |

Looks like all the extras in Pro don't help audio apps any. Just more networking junk to get in the way. Is there anything specific about Pro that is useful for us music types? |
