I'll tell you when I use SF5.0 for editing, and either opening files or editing them (500mb-1.5gb size files) my PC slows to a crawl. I can barely do any other tasks when this is happening. I'm not running a slow PC either, AMD1.4ghz, w/512DDRram. Anything I can do about this, is this an old problem? Thanks........Dave |

Those are rather large files that you're opening. Since Sound Forge is a destructive editor, it makes a copy of the file you're working on in it's own workspace (usually the same directory where Sound Forge is installed). This copy process can take a while for a file that large, especially if the original file is on a different hard drive. Also, any edits you make generally require major portions of this file to be rewritten on the drive. You can open the files in Direct mode to avoid creating a new temporary file, but keep in mind that you will then be editing your original source file directly and risk losing it if you're not careful. If you're going to be doing a lot of cut & paste editing of files that size, you might want to look at a non-destructive editing system like Vegas. It can perform those types of edits much faster without ever touching your original file. |
