Defrag and run Scandisc. Shut down all unnesesary programs- i.e., virus protection, screen-savers, ect. To see what's running: Ctrl-Alt-Delete.
How fast is your hard drive(s)?

I have a similar/same? problem. I use msconfig to boot clean, ran defrag, ran chkdsk /f (scandisk is for Win9x)none of this helped.

I did fool around with my sound card drivers (using latest version): SBLive-CT4620, and did notice that one of the earlier drivers seemed to record better, but still not without problems @24/32.

I have another less powerful WS that has no problem recording @24/32 w/an on-board AC-97 VIA chipset. Go figure!

I also spent time looking at the codecs, and did some sleuthing w/TechNet... nada.

Since the only thing that seemed to make a difference was the sound card driver change, I decided to invest in an Audiophile 2496, and hope that my card/drivers is/are the problem. I got the card today, and will install and test shortly. If this works, I'll let you know, but I would definitely look into your driver version: sometimes the latest release is not the best! Your WS sounds like a real power-house, so I doubt its a resourse issue.

Happy Recording

..i think so... the pulsar drivers for 2000/xp are not complete... i have also tried to defrag and scandisk all my hd normally every three days. i use everyday my pc for work... nothin happens. tell me something about your new card...

New sound card did not help! I am about at my wits end with this one. Tried many other isolation tests... nada.

One last thing I will remove, and then reinstall all codecs: maybe something was corrupted, but I'm beginning to think about using my other WS for recording!

OK tried the codec thing... no good.

I ran tests on this WS with bare minimum services active: BTW, I run Win2KPro, not XP, so this is not an XP issue.

We do have some hardware that is similar, the Asus MB, mine is a P2B series, and the Maxtor drive: 60GB Diamond with Ultra ATA 100 controller/Promise chipset. I am running an older driver for this, actually v1.0... maybe. What version are you running?

Also, what graphics card do you have installed: I have ATI 3D Rage Pro.

You are not going to like this...
Remove any network cards and drivers, and test again.
(It worked for me!)
Good luck

hi, i use one ati radeon 7500 dual monitor...
hmmmm win2k and xp are very similar.
the only thing that can i say is that when i use my sblive for playback or record everything is good. the sblive is the only audiocard with wdm drivers... for example the drivers from creamware are in beta, only for 2k and xp os.
maybe we need to come back to "slowmotion" 98se???
Peace

I will try running safe mode tonight. I also read somewhere about certain graphics cards affecting SF... this problem is a real pain to root out :-(
