Is there anyway to record the exact sound from a keyboard with out useing the line out, or a MIDI synth. (i hate those) The line out on my keyboard is really, really bad. I used noise reduction, but by the time i got rid of the noise, it greatly diminished the sound. thanks!

BTW.. i bought a new sound card(SB) and all new plugs, no help :(

Why do you hate MIDI synths? If the keyboard you are using has MIDI capabilities then it is a MIDI synth.

If the audio out is dirty on your keyboard, you may want to get it looked at. If you can connect the keyboard to an amplifier and get a clean sound, you can always mic the amp.

In addition to what vanblah said, you might want to also consider a pro-quality soundcard, like those from M-Audio or Echo. Soundblaster cards are infamous among musicians for their noise.

What do you mean by

"line out on my keyboard is really, really bad.."

Is the line out physically damagaged?
Or does it just sound bad when you use it to record from? If so, what does it sound like? What are you comparing to - speakers on the keyboad? Headphones?

What kind (brand/model)of keyboad is it?

Are you sure you are connected to a line out and not an amplified out?

Also, are you connected to the line input on the SB or the mic input. If you connect to the Mic input, you could be over driving the input gain. Also, did you set the gain on the SB live input? The mic input has a +20 dB pad available. Also, you have to make sure you only select the source you want to record from, otherwise you could overload or get a mixed signal.

make sure you don't have a problem with your cable while you're at it. could be that simple.
