The sound operator was not very alert and one talent was recorded at a much lower level then the other.

I would first make back-up copy in case you screw up, don't like the result and accidently save it.. then you can't "undo". IF they are on differnent tracks it's quick. Just highlight the left and peak normalize then do the right track. If they are together, you can put markers where one person starts and stops, (the "M" key) highlight the regions and adjust manually. (Process-Volume) OR, you can try some compresion/limiting and/or normalizing using the Average RMS/ equal loudness contour. Expermentation is the key for best results. There are other methods as well, I'll let someone else explain them.

If you only have one mixed down track in Sound Forge, and...if you have have something like Acid or Vegas Audio - Bring the track into Acid on two tracks (events). Trim the second event to only have the one talent's vocals you want to raise. Now that it is on two tracks, you have raised the volume of the one voice - and not the other. Mind you - you will have to tweak how it fades in and out - you can't just have it be at one volume then BAAMMMM it "doubles". May be a little work - but it would be worth it in the end. Then when everything is mixed out - render the tracks as one file....and it's a done deal. Hope that helps.
