AVCHD to DVD Workflow?

I need to produce a DVD-9 (4 hours) and my source footage is AVCHD 1920x1080i (upper field first) 29.97fps Anything special I need to know about converting the video to MPEG2 or should I just use one of the render templates?

What is the difference between using "Program Stream NTSC Widescreen" and "DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream" Is it just that the Program Stream includes audio and the other one doesn't?

Or should I use a different program altogether for encoding the MPEG2?

Template works fine for me. I use the DVD architect one and render the audio as a separate file.

DL DVDs, (DVD-9) are problematic (been there done that), from the discs themselves, i.e., coasters (even with high quality Verbatim discs) to some end users not being able to play them.
If it's for personal use, it may work ok, but I wouldn't archive anything on them.

No, it will be replicated, and for commercial sale. But I disagree, very rarely do I get reports of a bad disc, whether replicated or burned.

Heed rraud's advice. Burned DVD-DL is not a good distribution media.

My question wasn't about the reliability of burned DL DVDs. It was about the workflow from raw AVCHD footage to DVD compliant MPEG2. I made lots of 4:3 DVDs in the past, but I've never made a widescreen style where the footage is 16:9.

Do you know what the subject of that thread was so I can search it? Not too involved, but if there's something that might take me 30 mins or so to read or set up to get a better quality DVD, then I'm all for it.

I suspect burned DL issues could have something to do with the burner. I've made hundreds with my NEC burners, never an issue. Verbatim media.

I think DL DVD is one of those "once burnt twice shy" things. I had a horrific experience many years a go with Sony tapes, and never used them again. I had a similar bad experience with Taiyo Yuden discs - which most people here would say are the best ever disc media - and never used them again. Since sorting out a workflow, I have had nothing but good experience with DL. This is the 21st century folks. Burners and media have moved on!
