Greetings fellow "beta testers." (Wonder why MAGIX would purchase a lemon.)

I am not a computer wiz. Just a septuagenarian whose first computer was a Commodore 64. As a retired video producer, I wanted to convert old 1" IVC and first gen VHS to DVD.

While Windows Movie Maker should have been good enough for me, being a natural machodist, I bought into Movie Maker 13. Reasoning: Sony was THE pioneer in videography.

Fulfills all my needs for agony and de-feet!

It has taken a week or more, trying out all the "quick fix" YouTubes and countless other suggested "fixes" that I am sure many of you have tried - and fried!

The major recommendations were to TURN OFF Quadro 600 in the video setup.

BS! I paid good money for my Quadro 600, and wanted to reap the benefits of GPU and CUDA!

This evening I had a MAJOR break through in leaning how to overcome the dreaded rendering crashes and "unmanaged exception ....00005."

On the last crash at 11%, I had a moment of epiphany. I suddenly recalled Win 7 troubleshooter, and opened "Event Manager." There it was! A total explanation of the crash. MS13 was running out of memory on Nvidia OpenGL Driver.

Reasoning about memory allocation, lead me to inspect my "virtual memory" - pagefiles - and discovered to my horror:

• I had mere 16MB of pagefile on my C drive, an SSD!
• That posed a major determent to my SSD - as does "defragging."

Like I said, I am not a computer geek. I paid $5000 for the first Toshiba 5000 sold in Portland Oregon!

Pagefiles leads to all kinds of "hi tek" bs about 1.5x ram and this and that and phases of Jupiter.

I took a simple approach. In the pagefile setup, there is a "recommended" setting.

• I took page file OFF my SSD C drive
• ,Set up a higher number of "recommended MB (5317MB). I plugged in 6000MB into upper and lower settings on " "D" drive.

My test was a 2:00 clip, to be rendered to hard drive, using MC AVC/AAV Internet HD 720.

Took 14:00. While the GPU was <10% on my Quadro 600, it ran without crashing.

Bottom Line:

• Make sure you have the LATEST drivers for your graphics card.
• If you have an update recommended, strip out the old drivers and ALL references to them using uninstaller AND "Regedit."
• Next uninstall Movie Studio 13, using Sony's uninstaller AND THEN go into "regedit" and remove all references to MS 13 under "User" and "Machine." (and if you want to REALLY live on the edge, do NOT back up Register. Just hope noting bad happens!)
• Load the updated graphics driver.
• Make sure you update Windows NET Framework files.
• RESTART WINDOWS .

Now, when you reinstall Movie Studio 13 -

• It will "see" the updated NET Framework files
• Updated NVideo GL installation, (or your graphics drivers) AND
• Resized "pagefiles."

This effort worked for me - MAGIX should hire me for tek support - and I hope some of this works for you!

So while I watched Mike Phelps qualify for yet another Gold Medal, the rendering completed without a burp!

Increasing virtual memory is suggested in Long render times.
The SCS KB can in fact be helpful.
Hopefully MAGIX will continue to maintain that as well as the forums.

Be prepared to have some more trouble if you have the basic Movie Studio 13.
