Subject:Sound Forge 5.0(X) Setup

Hello everybody,

I downloaded the demo version of soundforge 5 and I installed it on my laptop running a Win XP Pro OS to see how it works. As seen that I found some gapping in reproduction of audio I tried and install the same version on my P4 Win XP Pro Desktop. Unfortunately, after the installation, I noticed something wrong. the vumeter bar did not appear and did not follow (when opened) the audio levels of any files, on the contrary it seems to be freezed up at a certain level while the music plays. Closing and reopening the program doesn't help, moereover it does not save anything of the workspace (toolbars placement, background, program size and position ...). On the laptop everything works fine. I tried to uninstall and reinstall everything but it doesn't work.

Anybody knows what's wrong?

Thank you in advance.
Ettore.

Try updating your soundcard's drivers (and/or your video card's drivers)?

Thank you for the answer, but I think It's not a matter of drivers. It maybe right for the freezed vumeter visualization, but I think it doesn't have anything to do with the fact that it doesn't save my preferences exiting the program. Anyway, thank you again. Other Suggestions (Even from the sonic foundry staff) are welcome.

I just noticed: Why do have an "(X)" after "Sound Forge 5.0"? The latest version is Sound Forge 5.0f Build 259.

'Cause this problem comes from more than the last release. Unfortunately. The first version I tried and install I think it was the 5.0b. I hoped it was sort of a release bug, so I waited for other versions (that's the reason of the (X)). Anyway tonite I'll do the last think I would have wanted to do: formatting the HD and reinstalling everything. Wish me good luck ... or stop me before I did it ... with a working solution :)))

Before you take drastic steps, try some simple troubleshooting...

Use Msconfig, which is a great troubleshooting tool to boot your system clean; ie,no start-up stuff, and no services other then MS's. This can all be done with the tool: I use it frequently, and as a rule, when I work with SF, I use MSconfig to boot my system clean, so I know there are no other programs, services, processes running that will interfere with SF.

After you clean boot, run SF again and see if you still have the problem.

BTW, you should also check the event viewer application log to see if any errors are reported...

Good Luck
