Can't Open Up Project File. Corrupt. HELP PLEASE

Hi there,

I have a little problem opening up this project file (attached below) in Sony Vegas Pro 12.

I created this project file a few months back, and I've saved it to my external Seagate Dashboard hard drive. But yesterday, I realized that at the worst possible time ever and out of all of my project files on my hard drive, I can't seem to open up this one AT ALL!!! It was then I realized that the file was corrupted and unreadable. I tried repairing it using external software, but that didn't work. I can't even make a copy of it to the desktop or upload it to my cloud storage service profile in order to try and fix it. Soon afterwards, I was able to recovery my project file using a software called iCare Data Recovery Pro Workstation (http://www.icare-recovery.com/). The file can now be copied and uploaded to cloud-based services like Dropbox or Google Drive. But when I tried opening up the project file in Vegas, I got a message saying "An error occurred while opening one or more files. The file is an unsupported format." Umm. I know that it's a supported format, because it's an actual registered Vegas Pro .veg project file. Why won't you open it Vegas!? Uggh! I'm so frustrated! I've done a lot of hardcore editing in that project! I don't want to do that all over again!

So, can someone please help me. HOW DO I OPEN THIS FILE NOW!!!??? IS MY WORK GONE FOREVER!!!??? CAN I EVEN FIX IT NOW!!!??? HOW DO I GET THIS FILE TO OPEN IN VEGAS NOW!!!???

Feel free to download the attached file to check the problems for yourself, to attempt to fix the project file, and to comment if you need anymore information from me. I will be happy to supply whatever you need in order to hopefully fix this problem.

P.S.: If someone were to open up the attached file successfully, they will get a message stating that all the project's media is missing or unlinked. Don't worry about that as I can relink the files once the project file has been fixed.

Thank you, and I really hope that I may be able to recover all my hard work that I've done on this project. I really do not feel like going through all that hard work again. I hope to once again re-open this file like I have done in the past.

It won't open on my system in either VP12 or VP13. Sorry. Search to see if you have a Vegas-created backup, which would be the same file name with .bak after it. If so then rename it to something and remove the .bak and see if that will open.

Sorry, says it is an unsupported format. I even renamed it, but that didn't help.

isn't there a way to open a file in safe mode? as in, no plug-ins?

is gpu acceleration turned off?

Uh. I think it would be bad for me since I've deleted the .bak file before the file was recovered and there's no autosave backup of the project file in its full finished format. =(

I think you're out of luck. Opening this file in Notepad and comparing with good Vegas12 project files, you're missing a large chunk at the head of the file that contains file paths, project name, etc.

.veg files opened in a text editor contain a lot of nonsense characters, as you would expect, but there is a lot of readable info there as well. Your plugins and the usual Sony footer info are all there, but there's no way to know how much of the data at the head of your file has been lost.

You deleted the .BAK file????? Why? Couldn't have been using zilch room on your system! Tough way to learn a lesson mate, really feel for you. Back up software is a must for me. Vegasaur is a good one.
