vkmast,

While I did sign up for Magix newsletter (their website has a link), I think came via the their list of Sony users. At the bottom of the email, it has -

"You received this email because MAGIX Software GmbH has acquired a majority of the Sony Creative Software products. Your information and product registration was transferred to MAGIX as a result, and these emails are sent to inform you of new products and discounts. For more information see our press release. We respect and will protect well your privacy."

Perhaps look in your spam folder?
vkmast wrote on 6/24/2016, 12:28 PM
Thanks for the response, Markk. Nothing in the spams either. Seems there's some unknown logic here judging by the responses on some other forums.
I've been receiving regular newsletters of MAGIX offers for years, but nothing yet from "news@vegas.magix.net."

I just got their Music Maker Premium and it a good program. I'll probably update if the QT issue is fixed.

"Btw, what did you do to get on the Magix Vegas mailing list ? =)"

Other thank making sure Sony Creative Software had my current info and i had checked the box to accept their news emails 15 years ago. i did nothing. I got the Magix announcement too.
vkmast wrote on 6/24/2016, 6:08 PM
I had all of the above checked 5 years ago, so there must be another reason. All SCS mail has come through.
Chienworks wrote on 6/24/2016, 10:37 PM
Well, i do know that at times in the past there was up to a 10 day spread over which emails were delivered. I'm not sure why Magix might do the same thing, except that maybe on this first emailing they simply used Sony's system with the address list already installed.

@vkmast,

Did you get this email from SCS on 26 May?

Sony Creative Software Inc. ("SCS") is pleased to announce that MAGIX Software GmbH (“MAGIX”) has purchased substantially all of the software products and other assets of SCS (“SCS Assets”). As part of this sale, and in accordance with our Privacy Policy, MAGIX will acquire our customer database, including your personally identifiable information, previously collected through our website or otherwise (“Customer Database”). This information was included in the sale to assist MAGIX in providing you with products and services, including those that are no longer offered by SCS.

We appreciate the opportunity to have served you and hope to have the opportunity to do so in the future. For further information, including a detailed product list, please visit the Sony Creative Software website.

Sincerely,
Sony Creative Software Inc.

I also received the VMS14 email from Magix.

I'm not sure why they're touting the "new" name. I've always known it to be Vegas Movie Studio. That's what it's called in the Program Files and Start menus.

MSmart,
no, I did not get that email from SCS myself, but I am aware of that post. I even quoted it in my MSZ forum thread on May 27. You might like to read the thread, which was started on May 23/24 (depending on where you live).
https://www.moviestudiozen.com/forum/vegas-pro/953-magix-software-has-acquired-sony-creative-software

I used to regularly receive emails from SCS and never "opted out from marketing emails from SCS or another Sony entity".

Seems I'm not the only one in this situation anyway judging by the questions asked on several forums (e.g. CCow, DVinfo), as I have mentioned before. The latest post is this morning on the MSZ forum by the forum owner Dr Zen.

"I wish I was getting these emails from MAGIX !!!."

I hope all this is due to a possibly gradual transition of the databases.

Btw, I get emails from other MAGIX products, but nothing from news@vegas.magix.net.
Most of us that are not receiving Vegas Magix emails seem to be living outside of the U.S. and Canada.

And re the "new name", Movie Studio Platinum 12 and Movie Studio/Movie Studio Platinum 13 dropped mentioning "Vegas".

Dr Zen got an answer from Magix.

It's probably too late to change the mail settings to disable them for a few days then enable again.

You're plugged in so shouldn't miss anything.

I wasn't aware of the MSZ forum. I'll have to check it out. thx.
vkmast wrote on 7/3/2016, 2:36 AM
The email from SCS quoted above includes the following note:
"MAGIX will acquire our customer database, which includes your personally identifiable information previously collected through our website or otherwise (“Customer Database”). This information was included in the sale to assist MAGIX in providing you with products and services, including those that are no longer offered by SCS."

I assume "services" include email notices and I expect MAGIX to eventually add all former SCS notice recipients to their mailing lists.

It is interesting that while I have both MS as well as Vegas Pro (version 12), both registered, I did receive an email about the Vegas Pro update offer, but have seen nothing about the Movie Studio update information.

Previous information about Movie Studio was a February 2017 release of Vegas Movie Studio 14, so it is a bit early still.....

@Eagle,

gps and vk are pointing out that they have not received the emails from Magix that some of us have regarding MS. Valid concerns, early or not.

See some of DoctorZen's correspondence with MAGIX re emails .
