Here's the text of the email I received this morning regarding this post.

Hi Mike,
Movie Studio is entering into a brand new era!
Since the acquisition of Movie Studio and other tools from Sony Creative Software, our entire development team in Madison, Wisconsin is working tirelessly to take video editing to the next level.
This means that at the end of February 2017, you can look forward to the most advanced Movie Studio yet. The new version will come with exciting new features and a new name: VEGAS Movie Studio.
Here's a sneak peek of some of the highlights in the upcoming version:
» New video effects
» Multi-cam editing
» Travel route animation
» and much more
Stay tuned for more updates and get ready for the all new VEGAS Movie Studio 14!
While I did sign up for Magix newsletter (their website has a link), I think came via the their list of Sony users. At the bottom of the email, it has -
"You received this email because MAGIX Software GmbH has acquired a majority of the Sony Creative Software products. Your information and product registration was transferred to MAGIX as a result, and these emails are sent to inform you of new products and discounts. For more information see our press release. We respect and will protect well your privacy."
Thanks for the response, Markk. Nothing in the spams either. Seems there's some unknown logic here judging by the responses on some other forums.
I've been receiving regular newsletters of MAGIX offers for years, but nothing yet from "news@vegas.magix.net."
"Btw, what did you do to get on the Magix Vegas mailing list ? =)"
Other thank making sure Sony Creative Software had my current info and i had checked the box to accept their news emails 15 years ago. i did nothing. I got the Magix announcement too.
Well, i do know that at times in the past there was up to a 10 day spread over which emails were delivered. I'm not sure why Magix might do the same thing, except that maybe on this first emailing they simply used Sony's system with the address list already installed.

I also received the VMS14 email from Magix.
I'm not sure why they're touting the "new" name. I've always known it to be Vegas Movie Studio. That's what it's called in the Program Files and Start menus.
I used to regularly receive emails from SCS and never "opted out from marketing emails from SCS or another Sony entity".
Seems I'm not the only one in this situation anyway judging by the questions asked on several forums (e.g. CCow, DVinfo), as I have mentioned before. The latest post is this morning on the MSZ forum by the forum owner Dr Zen.
"I wish I was getting these emails from MAGIX !!!."
I hope all this is due to a possibly gradual transition of the databases.
Btw, I get emails from other MAGIX products, but nothing from news@vegas.magix.net.
Most of us that are not receiving Vegas Magix emails seem to be living outside of the U.S. and Canada.
And re the "new name", Movie Studio Platinum 12 and Movie Studio/Movie Studio Platinum 13 dropped mentioning "Vegas".
The email from SCS quoted above includes the following note:
"MAGIX will acquire our customer database, which includes your personally identifiable information previously collected through our website or otherwise (“Customer Database”). This information was included in the sale to assist MAGIX in providing you with products and services, including those that are no longer offered by SCS."
I assume "services" include email notices and I expect MAGIX to eventually add all former SCS notice recipients to their mailing lists.
It is interesting that while I have both MS as well as Vegas Pro (version 12), both registered, I did receive an email about the Vegas Pro update offer, but have seen nothing about the Movie Studio update information.
