Fade out/in corners not clickable very well

marcel-vossen wrote on 6/22/2016, 7:20 AM
Hi there,

This might be a strange question but I've been noticing this for a long time now and it's really annoying...

I've been using Vegas for many years now, I'm working with version 12 at the moment.
In the past it was never an issue to click in the upper corners of a piece of footage and pull it back a little to create a fade out/in effect on that piece of footage.

At some point, something changed though (in newer versions?) and nowadays I find myself having to click around 5-6 times in these corners to even find the 'sweet spot' where the fade in/out curve is.

Did they change the size of these corners or something so they are harder to find or did I change a setting by accident or something?

I gave up on doing that and have been using a script to do it instead.
Here's the link on my Dropbox account to it.
Fade_In_Out_1_Second
I modified it for 1/2 sec. fade in, 12/ sec. fade out, etc. and saved them all as new scripts.
Very easy to do :)

Seems like I remember a version where it got harder to get the corner. They had added some other features that started making it crowded there. I don't remember when though, I have learned to work with it.

Hi Dude,

The corner on Ver 13 (build 453) seems normal to me and easy to click on. I also have ver 12 trial (build 770) and it is the same as ver 13.

Maybe this isn't your problem but it messes me up often enough:

If you have reduced the opacity of a video event or the volume of an audio event by dragging the top edge of the event down, I think you have to grab the ends of the lowered opacity/volume line to find the controls for the fade.

I've got versions 9 and 10 running. I can tell you that it's waaaaaaaay more difficult in 10 than in 9. Every once in a while i just happen to get a lucky click and 10 works like 9 always did, but i'd say 95% of the time i have to just keep clicking over and over and over again until i finally get that lucky sweet spot.

If you hit V on your keyboard to add a volume line, and you raise it too much, it is much more difficult to get that fade started.

Thanks guys,

I see I'm not the only one with this problem so I guess Sony has done a pretty bad downgrade after version 9 for this feature...

If someone is reading this at Sony: please fix it, this is BASIC stuff that I am using all the time! ;)

I have been editing with 9c recently and found many times that it was difficult to drag the fade-in/out corner. It seems harder than it used to be but I put that down to failing eyesight :(

The forum font size is also too small!

I'm not seeing this problem in V13 unless, as mentioned above, something else is in the way ..

"The forum font size is also too small!"

If the fonts on traffic signs are also too small that could be quite another story.

Hi dude,

When I hover the mouse pointer on or near the corner it changes from the normal arrow pointer to the fade icon with the small <-> doubled ended arrow. Then it's easy to click. Is this what you see? As I stated earlier, this works easy and well with version 12 and 13 latest builds, and I think you stated you are using ver 12. Do you have the latest build.

I find it much easier to fade in/out, if I expand track layers.
PeterDuke wrote on 6/23/2016, 5:45 PM
The trick is to select the fade handle rather than the trim handle. The latter keeps getting in the way. It is quite obvious which is which, but grabbing the right one is the tricky bit.

I have the latest build of Vegas 13 and have a terrible time with this. I can hover and briefly see the handle I want but it is super easy to jump to the wrong handle and not get what I want. Maybe it is the scale on my monitor that is making them too small and/or tight to easily grab them?

Anyway, my number one wish for Vegas 14 is a much easier way to grab the handle(s) I want.
Also, change that awful smart resample thing being set wrong!
