Strange transition behavior?

Hi,

I'm a new user of Sony Movie Studio Platinum, and I'm not sure if this is the intended transition behavior or I'm just overlooking something.

I have a project which is 16:9 which contains a slideshow with photographs of varying aspect ratios. When I insert a transition between 2 photos, the transition seems to use the background layer as part of the transition.

A screenshot can probably explain it better than I can, so here's an example of what I'm talking about:

Is there a way to change this?

I'm not at a computer where i can test this right now, but here's some guesses to try ...

Open up Pan/Crop on the picture, right-mouse-button click inside the cropping frame, and choose "match source aspect" from the menu that pops up. See if this works any better. If not, go back to that menu and do "Restore", then "Match output aspect". I think one of those will do what you want.

That was the first thing I did, but unfortunately it didn't work.

If these photos open in a photo program with that black around them, it is part of the picture. You need to either crop them in the photo program or in Movie Studio.

Just a thought - what files are these Stills?
I find (dot)png is good - maybe it's something to do with Transparency.

Using Pan/Crop - you need to have something that is 16:9 to "Match settings" ( or similar wording).... then you can apply the minimum crop - but maybe you should give it a little "Twist" so it transitions at an angle then settles down.

Whilst it's cheesy, the Iris transition is Good IMHO, along with the one that shoves the previous frame out of the way.
-But then plain transitions are good too -
If there is any transparent black border, then you can introduce a "Solid Colour" as you might choose for a Picture Mount. Add a small Timeline to Crop and the viewer is brought into the picture . . .
Perhaps that's what you wanted, anyway.

It's working as intended. The Slide transition is applied to the entire 1920x1080 frame. Your pictures don't fill up the entire frame so the remaining part of the frame, which is black, is what you see during the transition.

Doing what Chienworks suggests to use Match output aspect in Pan/Crop will help but will zoom in on the pictures cutting off the top and bottom of them so I suspect you won't like the outcome.

A simple fade transition is better for pictures that don't fill up the frame. That is, if you don't want to see the empty (black) part of the frame during the transition.
