Vegas Pro 13 Constantly Crashing

Spectralis wrote on 1/14/2015, 1:09 AM
The latest project I'm working on seems to constantly crash after about 10 minutes. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to this - it just crashes after about 10 minutes. I'm using the latest version of VP13, the latest NVidia drivers and Win 8 Pro.

When I began the project everything was fine but as I've added FX something must be causing VP to crash. I've been sending crash reports but how can I identify what is actually causing the crash?

If you can, please tell us what the dialog box messages are saying. There are those here who might help you find the source and then the solution.

Ok, will do. I've just had the same problem with this project after deleting all the FX and all the tracks except one. GPU rendering is switched off. It must be something other than the FX or the clips I'm using that's causing such regular crashes. Has anyone noticed any problems with the latest NVidia drivers? Right now I'm having a break but will post the dialogue box message next time it crashes.

Did you add additional cards to your system? Your spec says you got 4 GPUs in a socket 1150 system?

Did you find that it crashes after using the NewBlue titler 3 that is included with Vegas 13? I ask because I have found that the only time that my V13 crashes with any predictability is when I use Titler 3 and make several (10 or so) changes to the title item at one time OR create a title with nothing else on the timeline. Other than during these two specific instances, my V13 doesn't seem to crash and I usually have at least a couple of titler 3 items in all of my projects. I fix the problem by deleting the temp files created when it crashes (by which I mean a 'vegas pro has stopped working' error from microsoft after exiting the program). Here are the temp files that show up in my error report when this happens to me.
C:\Users\Frank\AppData\Local\Temp\WER8056.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
C:\Users\Frank\AppData\Local\Temp\WER9915.tmp.appcompat.txt
C:\Users\Frank\AppData\Local\Temp\WERA565.tmp.hdmp

Anybody else have this problem?
All the best in fixing this problem, Spectralis.

I'm having the same problem. Several minutes into working on a project Vegas 2013 just hangs. No error message, just an unresponsive application. It does not seem to be related to adding any particular effect. In fact it will happen on a fresh project where I'm doing nothing more than laying out my track events. This all started occurring in the last couple of weeks.

GTX 560

make sure your hardware is up to the task. Overheating and under spec power supplies can cause many issues.

Hardware is fine. It's not the system that is hanging, just Vegas.

Have you tried switching OFF GPU acceleration?

Some time ago I had similar issues. I've been trying many settings - turning on/off GPU acceleration, changing Ram preview to 0, ect. Nothing helped.
After long chatting with SCS support, they sent me instructions of clean uninstall of VP. This didn't help also.
Finally I have refreshed my windows from ghost image and it did help. Now the only changes I make in VP are:
- Ram preview = 0, GPU acceleration = On [for editing, and for Sony AVC rendering]
- Ram preview = 0, GPU acceleration = Off [for Mainconcept Mpeg-2 rendering]
I also use one driver version (334.89) for my Nvidia graphic card.

I don't know if the issue was registry settings of maybe some libraries replaced by other software.

So, please try to install VP on a clean windows.

Peter100 I am so happy.
I was getting quite frustrated with Vegas 13 constantly crashing, tried all sorts of NVidia drivers and finally disabled GPU acceleration. That fixed the crashes but the preview was too choppy on a multicam edit.

I enabled GPU acceleration, and using your changes, ie RAM preview = 0, I'm chugging along nice and fast and haven't had a crash since I did the change hours ago.

Thankyou :)

We have not been able to reproduce this issue as of yet. Is there more specific information or a specific workflow needed to reproduce the crash issue?

Strange - but maybe a solution to similar problems: I just had a problem where a project crashed 4% into rendering.
Tried it 3 times. It always crashed at the very same spot..
Then I simply reopened the project and moved the media starting at that place less than a 1/4 of a second forward (it was just a Vegas generated text).
Result: No more problems.
