Subject:Magix Acid Pro 8: What's your 5 Features Requests?

After 6 years, well... Here's mine for what it's worth:

1. 64-Bit Support (Because sometime we use 10Gb libraries in our projects)
2. VST 64 Support (And eventually VST3 Support)
3. Automation Tracks (Finally)
4. Keep Peter Haller in the team (Father of the never-beaten-yet secret of Acid Pro which core ingredient is obviously its Grid and its in-line midi editing)
5. UI Revamp (Although I like the clarity of this old-school .NET Framework style)

Mac Version, should not be a priority for 5 reasons (even though we'd all love it) :
1. Bootcamp is here to save the day
2. Legacy users have been waiting for too long
3. Right now priority is saving Acid's ass
4. Cuz refugees all jumped ship to other DAWs already (Anyone seen the FL Studio 12 vector UI? Isn't it insanely georgous?)
5. Windows 7x64 / Windows 10x64 are pretty decent OS nowdays

And needless to say, all releases must all have a thorough Betatesting / QA / Stress Test phase for a robust / stable Release Candidate.

Might be a little early to assume Magix is suddenly "doing" an Acid Pro 8?

Seems the SMS sale/buyout was focused on Vegas and the video end of things?

Actually, this the Perfect time to Inform Magix what faithful Acid users expect out of this acquisition
Plain and Simple....
And I, for one agree completely with Zaccinno.

Well - Acid was last updated in 2010. Can't see this being a priority for them.

6 years is an eternity - especially when every other DAW (circa 2016) out there is light years ahead of AP in every way.

But hey - good luck with the requests.

64 bit, 64 bit, 64bit, 64 bit, 64 bit...

@Vocalpoint,
This is obviously true...

But you forget that Acid Pro's "Smart" Grid, and In-Line Midi editing has never been defeated user experience wise

Plus the revival of an old-school DAW can have the same enthusiasm wave as the renaissance of Moog.

PS: They said they'll transfer the forum's database to Magix so... They're gonna see this thread obviously (I'd suggest they switch it to Discourse.org framework).

Thanks @Bloodstool!

I guess it depends on your "user" experience and what applications you have used extensively (besides AP).

Studio One (for me anyway) runs the entire AP application into the ground - including it's so called "smart grid" and whatever midi editing passes for in AP.

Bottom line tho - acquisitions are always 100% about money - and Magix will place the appropriate resources and effort into those SMS apps that will make money for them.

While I am no financial wizard - and have no idea what the actual paying customer base is for SMS apps in general - I cannot see how any market share for AP exists now.

From the Magix side of things - unless there is a huge untapped AP user community that I am totally unaware of - if given the choice between the potential cash flow for SMS Vegas vs the potential for SMS AP - I just do not see any incentive for them to do anything to AP.

Selling 58 copies of a mildly updated AP8 to the 58 people left on this Acid board is probably not worth the effort to update it.

Conversely - if they decide to rip AP down and start over with a v8 that would actually peak the interest of a larger audience - then maybe we have a reason to dream.

But just because Magix got the "Acid" property as part of the SMS sale - does not mean they will suddenly stick 6 full time developers on it and make it rise from the ashes

I hope I am wrong - but the market for a loop DAW stuck with tools that were cute in 2003 does not seem all that necessary in 2016 (and beyond)

Magix already has Samplitude. The best DAW you can buy, so I don't see a point in reviving ACID.

If you need a DAW with all those features + about a 100 more, just buy Samplitude

Agreed.

Not on the "best DAW you can buy" part - but certainly from a development standpoint.

Can't see them taking any resources away from their flagship apps (including Sequoia) to mess around with ancient tech like Acid.

And then again, if i want a DAW that fits all my needs perfectly, Vegas is a way better choice than ACID in pretty much all respects.

I REALLY hope they continue to work on Acid Pro. It's my favourite DAW I've ever come across, and has so few limitations. I record/edit/mix/master everything I do on ACID and rarely think of something I want to do that the program isn't capable of.
I've said over and over than I would happily pay $300+ for a 64bit version of Acid Pro. I'm sure with the right marketing Magix will see how many people are willing to do the same.

1. 64 bit
2. VST3
3. A beat quantizer more like Abelton's, where everything just 'clicks' in to the correct beat. The Beat Mapping system is close, but could use a little work.
4. A living forum where users can talk shop and ask questions (like this one, but for a product that is alive and active, rather than this semi-graveyard of a forum).
5. Laptop/trackpad support. Using a mouse to zoom/scroll up/down/left/right is easy and intuitive, but using a trackpad makes for strange commands - ie, "Zooming" on a track pad (like you would zoom in on a photo on an iPhone) scrolls Up and Down, rather than zooming in and out.

I created this entire album (recording, mixing, editing, mastering) in Acid Pro 7.0 -

You have really limited 'needs'.

Maybe they will offer a cross grade price for existing Acid Pro users to Samplitude.

I'd like to see them upgrade Acid Music Studio to 64-bit, too.

For people who started with Acid but switched to Samplitude when Sony abandoned Acid - what features from Acid would you most like to see in Samplitude? Thanks.

Totally agree with Zacchino (though I would not really need a Mac Version).

Native 64 Bit support, also for Plugins is the mostly needed feature. The lack of 64 Bit support was the main reason to change in the past.

But Acid Pro still has got a lot of potential and I think, that, although many people left the forum because of Sonys ignorance here in the forums, a new Acid Pro Version would re-activate many former AP users. It would be a good inhouse-Alternative to Samplitude which is very good in quality, but is not a very "fast" and intuitive DAW in things of workflow, imho.

Acid still has the best workflow for me :-)
I personally started playing around with AP again and had so much fun :-) I would pay up to 150 $ for a big upgrade to Version 8.

One thing I'd like to see developed is a native audio Looper for Acid with an inbuilt ability to drag the current state of the looped material out/ on to an audio track ala Ableton Live.

I want whatever you guys want because I'm too DAW technology challenged to know better.

I do like the Acid workflow though. I know the interface is plain but I'd rather it simple than fancy and incoherent.

What I would like to see if possible is a slick arrangement tool where after defining your song sections in the project window i.e intro/verse/pre chorus/chorus/middle 8/interlude you could call up an arrangement window and start freely moving sections around. Swapping orders, halving or multiplying lengths, deleting. Non destructive of course. All while the project keeps playing. Basically an on the fly arrangement mangler so you can nail the definitive version. My 2 cents.

Good one. This type of functionality is being adopted widely by most DAWs, so + 1 from me.
And I agree, keeping the interface very plain and unobtrusive is key and in many regards is what makes Acid,Acid.

Today I got an email from MAGIX regarding Acid Pro!

They gave me a survey asking what features I would like to have in the new Acid.
My primary need (like many of you) is 64 bit!! So that I can use the current VST plugins which I really can't use in AP7 due to the memory limit of 32 bit

Please check your email and also fill in the survey and tell them know you need 64 bit too.

Especially question number 8:
"8. Which functions are missing in ACID that you most strongly think should be included?"

My answer: "Please make Acid Pro 64 bit so that I can use the current VST instruments"

Check your email, mine arrived today. Let them know you are interested in Acid.

The more answers they get the better!

I can paste the survey here, but I a am not sure if that's user connected or a general one, I did have to fill in my email at the end. It's hosted on http://www.surveygizmo.com/

If any MAGIX member is here please let me know If I can paste the survey link here.

Hello VMP,

I still have not received any survey regarding ACID and I have been using ACID since v3.0.

I also noticed the other day I could not create a ticket in SCS so I tried at Magix and they have me down for no products from SCS! Either they have not finished transferring data or this is gonna be problems. I have 30 items from SCS that I purchased and I would like to make sure Magix has it registered to me properly.

I hope Magix releases a general survey or something because I would love to fill that out to make sure we get another version of ACID.

FixitMad0,

This is the link to the survey: http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/2930986/2016-Survey-ACID-INT
at the end one has to fill in the email so I think this is a general survey anyone can take.

(The admin can let us know otherwise)

I gave my input. However, I'm still not confident anything might come of this, especially knowing Peter isn't even involved in developing ACID anymore.
