Vegas 13 can't start with latest windows 10 update

GJeffrey wrote on 6/11/2016, 3:32 AM
My computer just updated by itself overnight (thanks microsoft...) to a new built of Windows 10., version 10586.318.
Since then, I can't launch VP13. I have a ntdll.dll error when the VP splash screen reach "creating windows".
The only solution I found was to revert back to a previous built.
Just a warning for fellow VP13 user with windows 10...
Unfortunately, due to the sales to Magix, I have little hope to get this fixed soon.
Anyone have the same issue?

V13 is working for me too on 10586.318

Have you tried re-installing V13?
GJeffrey wrote on 6/11/2016, 10:38 PM
Yes I've tried reinstalling VP13 but i had the same error.
I don't know what happens with this windows update as I install nothing on my computer for a while.

The recent update is a huge one...
No issue to me...

Do you have any plug-in installed ?
When searching ntdll.dll, I found this:

I have quite few plug in installed: BCC, NV, Mercalli but no Newblue plug in as they are (were maybe now) very unstable on my system.
What is weird is after using Windows function to revert back to the previous built, this update is not available anymore.

But does Vegas run normal after revert back to previous built?

Yes sure. After uninstalling this update, everything is back to normal.

Take a backup/image of your working system. Then try reinstalling the updates in small blocks and identify the problem update file, Then check MS for details of the specific update.

Otherwise turn off future updates.

No end user (except maybe beta testers) should ever have to do this.

Disabling auto updates will not stop Windows 10.

The Win 10 upgrade is "hidden" in a "normal looking" update that says nothing about it's real purpose. If you have updates set to "let me choose" (or whatever it is) Win 10 will be installed.

I don't remember what the specific update number is for this. Check on-line to find out. I found the update and "hid" it so that it will not run.

So far so good on Win 7
Chienworks wrote on 6/12/2016, 8:54 PM
They're not talking about the Windows 10 upgrade from 7 or 8. They're talking about an installation that was working fine already running 10 until a new update came out.
set wrote on 6/12/2016, 9:41 PM
It's more difficult to do selective updates in Win10.
You can't do similarly like in Win7.

After several attempts i finally succeed with VP13 and the last windows 10 update.
I need to clean uninstall VP13 1st, then install the Windows update (using the upgrade prg I downloaded from Microsoft website), then reinstall VP13.
So far so good.
Thanks to Eric D from the support. His reply has been far faster than before.

It's a bad omen when an OS update requires the re-installation of third party software.

I've had nothing but problems with Win10. I've deliberately not upgraded my editing PC because of this. Every couple of Win10 updates something breaks. Usually the mail and calendar app. I've had to do a couple of hard resets on each device I've installed Win10 on because there seemed no other solution. Googling help for these problems is generally useless even though so many people have similar problems. MS have no solution so their ultimate go to is: "have you tried a hard reset?" They appear to have given up troubleshooting Win 10 and just implemented hard reset as a universal solution to every problem they can't be bothered or don't know how to fix.

I've not had this problem with Win 7 or 8.1 - at least not for a long while so my impression is that Win10 is still a work in progress. Maybe not quite beta but not entirely stable either. One of the worst Win10 offenses is the uncontrollable data gathering and updating systems. The limited configuration is no help with this. Having to uninstall mail and calendar apps using PowerShell and then reinstall them via the store is a PITA. If MS's own apps break after an update then what chance does third party software have?

What is a "Hard Reset"?
JJK
Spectralis wrote on 6/21/2016, 1:38 PM
A hard reset removes everything and then reinstalls Win 10 from scratch. The alternative is a "soft" reset that saves personal files but deletes settings, apps and drivers. I've tried the latter and problems still resurfaced so the hard reset seems to clear out any lingering problems. Back up personal files and then hard reset. In either case it's necessary to reinstall everything.

The nuclear option is to wipe the OS drive and then reinstall Win 10 using external media which I had to do on one laptop. A reset or clean install is generally a lot of work on an editing workstation but it's not too times consuming on systems that are mainly for recreational use. But at least any gremlins that occurred during the Win 7/8.1 to Win 10 upgrade are gone and the system is much faster until it gets clogged up again with unnecessary Win 10 updates.

Another reason to hold off upgrading to Windows 10. Since Microsoft is now calling Windows 10 "a service", there will be no further Windows updates at least until Microsoft decides this plan is bad. (Updates = Revision numbers like Windows 11, 12) [Link=http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/windows-service-windows-10-versionless-windows]

Microsoft's article on Windows as a Service [Link=https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/windows/plan/windows-10-servicing-options]

Windows10 heavy handed tactics might be its own undoing article [Link=http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/opinion/2454935/microsofts-heavy-handed-windows-10-tactics-may-be-its-undoing]

I have a hard time accepting Windows 10 and all the privacy concerns and let alone the fact you cannot control which updates will get pushed onto your system. It amazes me the Draconian way Microsoft has become. Windows 7 users get KB3035583 installed on their system and it silently downloads either the 2.69GB or 3.41GB size files for Windows 10 and then WILL install Windows 10 on your system whether you like it or not.

The following KB's should be uninstalled if you want to keep your current version of Windows: (and prevent further Privacy issues under Windows 7 & 8)

KB3035583
KB3022345
KB3080149
KB3068708
KB2952664
KB2976978
KB2977759
KB3123862

KB3139929

<Manual Updating enabled is the way I prefer. I prefer to know what is being installed and control WHEN something gets installed>

As far as I'm concerned, when a company forces their software on your system after you told them no (back in 2015) and they still go ahead and do it - YOU have to wonder what is going on.

Apparently your system is no longer your system.

I guess the only thing I can think of is, if your Windows 10 is working now make a Ghost image of it (or other Imaging software) because you will not be able to tell Microsoft to stop at a particular "update".

That's almost a month deal for me, 6 hours a day. With Win 7 pro I had almost 200 updates and that's downloading on a 3 meg connection. There are another 200 updates on it now. Then about 15 apps. Then there are two more computers.
I would tell them to go back to the cloud. I hope to live long enough to upgrade to an "Optalysys" processor.

Started Win 10 laptop today - hotmail not syncing. Gmail works fine. Two Microsoft products, the mail app and hotmail can't sync but a 3rd party email account can. This is a known and recurring problem that's never been fixed. Welcome to the Win 10 experience - out of the blue, without even downloading updates, something breaks. The alternative, invest in Outlook, another MS product, or one of the 3rd party mail apps that also gather personal info.

If MS can't even reliably sync the Win10 mail app then who knows what's happening to all this personal info they're collecting? A third party could be hacking into their servers and siphoning it all off without MS even knowing.

If this is not fixed as of yet, try disabling the following processes:

Windows Font Cache and Windows Presentation Foundation Cache 3.0.0.0

If it does not work I recommend creating an incident in the SCS support portal so we can help you out.
