Assets and forum sale of SCS to MAGIX

Just got this in my email.
I can't post the link where it says "...opt out of the data transfer here" as it brings up my personal info so you'll have to hope you get this or do it on your own as described below.

Mike

Sony Creative Software Inc. ("SCS") is pleased to announce that MAGIX Software GmbH (“MAGIX”) has purchased substantially all of the software products and other assets of SCS (“SCS Assets”). As part of this sale, and in accordance with our Privacy Policy, MAGIX will acquire our customer database, which includes your personally identifiable information previously collected through our website or otherwise (“Customer Database”). This information was included in the sale to assist MAGIX in providing you with products and services, including those that are no longer offered by SCS.

MAGIX has agreed that it will treat the personal information in the Customer Database in compliance with the law and in accordance with the terms of the existing SCS Privacy Policy.

If you object to SCS providing your personal information to MAGIX as described in this notice, you may opt out of the data transfer here. To be effective, any such opt-out request must be received by June 23, 2016. NOTE: If you opt-out, your personal information will not be transferred to MAGIX as part of the sale, and MAGIX will be unable to provide certain customer service functions, such as looking up your past orders or serial numbers should you misplace them.

If you have any questions regarding MAGIX’s practices with respect to the treatment of personal information, please contact MAGIX at: privacy@magix.net.

Please note that SCS will continue to own and distribute its Suite of Catalyst-branded products and services, and we will continue to communicate with you regarding those and other Sony products and services. The personal information and other information about you that we retain will continue to be governed by, and treated consistent with, the terms of our Privacy Policy. If you prefer that SCS no longer contact you with marketing communications, you may opt out here. If you wish that we delete your information from our active databases, you can request removal here. In addition, you can opt-out from marketing emails sent from SCS or another Sony entity at any time by following the link contained within such marketing emails. Note that even if you request that we delete your personal information from our active databases, some information may remain on backup storage and we may need to retain a copy for legal retention purposes.

We appreciate the opportunity to have served you and hope to have the opportunity to do so in the future. For further information, including a detailed product list, please visit the Sony Creative Software website.

Why would anyone opt-out? You would loose your order and serial number information! It makes no sense to me to want to do this. MAGIX is the new Sony.

Many of us have already received this legal business letter over the last few weeks.

I agree with JR , that no one should feel compelled to opt out, because if you do you will be left with a license agreement that ends when your harddrive quits spinning.

On the other hand this is a legal matter over several parties jurisdiction with a huge customer base and must be issued pro forma.

The way this appears to be setup, if someone does not respond (say, because they did not know of the sale pending) they shall be retained in the system which really errs on the side of the customer above every other issue.

I don't suspect anyone in Europe has received this notification. Non-Europeans should be thankful their data is being transferred to a jurisdiction with at least fig leaf data protection legislation. Ultimately it doesn't matter because there are no fingerprints on electronic personal information.

I received the same email on 5/29 but without the option to "opt out of the data transfer". I have no intention to opt out but I don't know what the status is. I can find no way to contact SCS to determine what is the going on. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ed, all that any of us know is what was in the email. Neither SCS nor MAGIX has said anything more :(

Mike,

My email is different. It does not have the link "...opt out of the data transfer here". SCS & MAGIX will sort it out.

Ed, I don't know why any Vegas user would want to opt out. As JohnnyRoy said in an earlier post, if you opt out you'll lose your order and serial number information and I for one don't want that to happen.

Mike,

I agree. As it stands right now I don't know what the status is and I have done nothing to change the status.

It's not difficult. It's SONY way of standing by the DATA sharing requirements by saying, we told you. It ain't about choice, it may seem/appear that way, but, in my opinion, it's simply a line being drawn.

Grazie

Uh oh, must have thought the email was spam, don't remember it. Does anyone know if you do nothing will your information flow over to Magix. That is what I hope.

Still waiting for my notification --- but that might be because I'm still on Pro12. The link to My Account works OK so can't say I'm too anxious at the moment.
