Vegas Pro - Time To Think Again

xdcamer wrote on 6/5/2016, 10:28 PM
As a vegas pro user for over 12 yrs i have mixed emotions about the news that Sony have sold out Vegas Pro.
I could never see myself moving from SCS Vegas Pro untill now.
I have held out for v14 with the hope of a huge leep forward but now it all looks like it will be all too late as a new company have to pick up the pieces.

Its disappointing that Sony who sell us Professional and bradcast cameras cant deliver the advances needed and i for one no longer feel like waiting around for Magix to decide on the future of Vegas Pro when Sony couldnt do it.

I have just done what i least expected and switched to Premiere Pro cc and wow... This is light years ahead with slip and slide, ripple edits, scrubable timline and thumbnails in project and media folders, realtime rendering and more.

I guess i never delved into anything else in a serious way while i had confidence with Vegas Pro. I did fool around with Premiere, Avid, Edius and others on the windows platform but now i see clearer in that there is a better NLE when i am not blinded by my one track vision and forced to step out of my comfort zone.....

So glad my eyes were opened so in a bizzare way i should thank SCS for leaving us in the dark for so long about the future development of Vegas Pro and the sell out really only ads further uncertainly in my opinion.

"And your point is . . .?"

Gosh if you dont get the point ill have to spell it out.....

Scs have left vegas pro way behind (and its userbase) while Adobe and others have moved with new advances. I am not waiting for Magix to play catch up. Only when i stepped away from Vegas Pro and switched to Premiere Pro could i see this ...... You get it yet...?
PeterWright wrote on 6/6/2016, 1:03 AM
I think I get it.

Because you have already switched to Premiere you would rather that Vegas did not acquire a bright new future.

Thanks for the good wishes.
xdcamer wrote on 6/6/2016, 1:34 AM
Ah..... just when i thought you got it......!

I never said 'I would rather that Vegas did not acquire a bright new future'
Perhaps you work for SCS or MAGIX as i dont understand why you are inventing this sort of jargan? I thought this was a forum for professionals not kids.

I have been a loyal Vegas pro user for over 12 years and as a profesional i need an NLE that will grow in line with editors needs.

I wish Magix well on their future development of Vegas pro but for me its too late.

I get it, loud and clear. I just don't understand why you came here to tell us that you hate video editing. You don't like video editing and moved to Photoshop to edit still photos and now you think you're better than us? I went to Harvard. You're not better than me. Look, if you ever want to give Vegas a try there's lots of friendly people here who can help you get started. It's not that difficult, you just need to give it a chance. Or you can stick with Photoshop. It's your choice.

And your long and extensive gloating is for what?
To convince all of us who are blinded here on the Vegas forum to switch
immediately to Premiere?..... Newsflash: most users here already knows
the many features of the new Adobe Premiere.

And as John said: "Don't let the door hit you on the way out" mister genius.

I remember similar fears when Sony took over Sonic Foundry and that turned out fine.

John, considering it's still much the same group of core developers as Sonic Foundry, I'd say you're right.

Gentlemen, Gentlemen,

please beware to flame somebody who clearly stated that he was a fan of Vegas Pro for 12 years. And who is frustrated by SCS because he has the feeling that he and his interests were sold out. I do not think that this he is right about that point - but it is HIS decision.

He did not state that he hates video editing.

He did not state that there will not be a brigth future of Vegas.

It is his - and only his - decision to switch to another NLE. That is something that other users should accept.

I totally understand OPs frustration. The point being that the media products were pretty neglected then subsequently abandoned while Sony remained silent about their intentions the whole time. It's not that hard. It's usually not good for the product to be passed around from company to company. The fate of Vegas is still undetermined so concern over that is warranted. If past history is any guide, it'll either get killed, folded into another product, or MAGIX MIGHT take the ball and run with it and Vegas will get improved. I've used other MAGIX products and they're not bad but only time will tell if it's a good thing or a bad thing. But that wait period is also risky if things to bad. Hence OPs difficult choice to go to Premiere.

Hope that helps.

@JJK Pretty much correct. Adobe software is among the most unintuitive that I've used. And I've been forced to use it many a time...

I just don't get why there has been such weeping and gnashing of teeth on some threads the past few months. If Vegas was some sort of subscription service where Sony was going to simply pull the switch and kill all working copies of Vegas, then yeah, I'd be pretty upset with that. But it's not that at all. My Vegas still runs great, and will continue to run great at long as I feel the need to tell a story through video and audio. And now another company is going to be injecting new capital and excitement into the product. Sounds like good times to me.

Hi mphelan,

Although I don't fully agree, I can appreciate you have an opinion.

mphelan @ "I could never see myself moving from SCS Vegas Pro untill now.

I wouldn't consider SCS to have made huge leaps forward in their last few version upgrades, and therefore wouldn't assume huge leaps forward now. Meaningful improvements and fix yes, huge, not so much.

I do think there may be truth to the rumors that SCS was ready to release ver 14 a couple months ago and held the release to finalize the sell/purchase deal with Magix Software. So, if that is true, Magix purchased Vegas Pro with an upgrade ready and now can breath even more new life, even more new features and more fixes before their deadline release date of autumn. That doesn't seem to be a new company picking up pieces, rather a well established holding company becoming a new owner to add polish to an already mature product and at the same time perhaps adding some youth.

mphelan @ "Its disappointing that Sony who sell us Professional and bradcast cameras cant deliver the advances needed and i for one no longer feel like waiting around for Magix to decide on the future of Vegas Pro when Sony couldnt do it."

I don't agree with your choice of "couldnt do it". I'm sure SCS was quite capable of improving Vegas Pro. I think it was Sony Corporate that made the decision to develop the Catalyst line to support their high end cameras, slowed down the SCS team and placed Vegas, and the associated software, on the market. I think it was a business management decision far more complex than we will ever be privy to. Like same with Magix Software's decision to purchase, these types of decisions are, for the most us, way over our head, based on a lot of information we will never have.

mphelan @ "when i am not blinded by my one track vision and forced to step out of my comfort zone....."

Now that you have opened your eyes and made the switch I hope it all works out for you. Fortunately for most of us, we have never had one track vision, as I think it most difficult to be a film maker or editor with that handicap. And, perhaps down the road you will not be blinded by what appears to be your new found love affair with Premiere Pro CC, and consider future versions of Vegas Pro. If of course, they offer you some benefit at the time.

mphelan @ "So glad my eyes were opened so in a bizzare way i should thank SCS for leaving us in the dark for so long about the future development of Vegas Pro and the sell out

So, I have to wonder, is your glass half empty, or half full? I think from your OP I know the answer to that.

Best Regards.......George

Thanks to Wolfgang S and Frank Z and others for your positive replies. I appreciate you don't agree with everything and that's perfectly fine (we live in a democracy where we all have different views and are entitled to our opinions) and I completely respect you for allowing a me to have an opinion and share this on this forum and for your understanding (even if only in part) why I have been frustrated with the slow pace and months of silence regarding VP and choose to explore another NLE.

As for those who choose to take my post out of context, misquote me and choose to engaged in a negative way with personal attacks, I have no comment to you as my post was not aimed at offending you or SCS so I just don't understand why tensions got so high and some got so defensive and nasty.

No offense taken. All your post really said was that despite the MAGIX news you'd finished with Vegas and were happy with Premiere.

What did you expect - everyone to say "Oh yippee, then we'd better switch to Premiere too." ?

Incidentally, this is neither being nasty nor defensive, just trying to understand motivations behind posts.
