Great news from MAGIX!

JohnnyRoy wrote on 5/26/2016, 12:45 AM
As many of you know, I am a long time Vegas Pro user from Vegas Video 3. I am also the developer who, along with Douglas Spotted Eagle, has created all of the script plug-ins that VASST makes for Vegas Pro (e.g., Ultimate S Pro, Caption Assistant, ScatterShot 3D, GearShift, Fasst Apps. etc.). I also developed Vegas Pro Production Assistant which carries a Sony logo so, as you might imagine, VASST and Sony have a close partnership going back to the Sonic Foundry days.

During these years I have become friends many of the SCS staff and I was speaking with Gary Rebholz about what he’s up to and he has agreed to allow me to share some key points from that conversation with the Vegas Pro community:

I am happy to share with you that Gary Rebholz has accepted a position with MAGIX as the Vegas PO leading the effort. They have a small team of experienced Vegas developers on board, so there is domain knowledge along with several direct connections back to Sonic Foundry. In other words, he has a team that knows and loves this software! ;-)

According to Gary, MAGIX intends to develop Vegas Pro into the future. MAGIX is a software company--not a hardware company trying to also do software--so they understand software development, and future Vegas development will not be as greatly hardware driven as it was in the past few years.

Gary said that MAGIX is currently looking into how they can continue the great Vegas Forum community and want to place a new premium on user feedback and input.

I take all of this to mean that Vegas Pro has a bright future with MAGIX and you can stop worrying. Vegas Pro has truly found a new home with a company that is serious about delivering quality software that is driven by user feedback. You couldn't have asked to be dealt a better hand.

I’m thankful to Gary for allowing me to share this news with the community instead of asking me to keep it to myself (under NDA).

You can view it as the shape of things to come. You now know as much as I do. (...but I know you will speculate anyway) :)

Cheers,

~jr

That are great news Johnny, and it is wonderfull to have Gary again on board to develop Vegas further. And off course also some of the experienced developer.

Some of you may know that I have not only used Vegas since Vegas 4 been one of the co-founder of the German Vegas forum vegasforum.de and that we have today a living German Vegas community in my forum videotreffpunkt.com. I have also been acting as betatester since Vegas 6. In a first email contact with one of the topmanagers of Magix I have received also the impression that there is the strong intention to continue with the development of Vegas, and find back to the old spirit that Vegas had in the past.

All together that are great news even if we have to understand that it may take some time to organize all the necessary points, as usual after such an akquisition of a bunch of for Magix new products. So the community will have to be patient at the moment.

it certainly is good news indeed...

i will certainly be buying into '14' when it finally arrives since resolve, as amazing as it is, is no match for the speed, agility, and audio capabilities of vegas.

VEGAS-MAGIX

Spectacular news indeed. Not just the content, John, which is heartwarming, but that Gary must have been given the permission from MAGIX to make this news public. So, in this new dawn of openness, it would appear, dearest VegHeads, we are going to be knocking on an opening and opened MAGIX-Agenda Portal.

I truly look forward to being once more involved with any future BETA developments for VEGAS-MAGIX (or what ever it is to be called . . . . ) - I'm rolling up my sleeves in anticipation!

@ Bernhard,

I assume that there will be betatesting again, but it may take some time until it starts.

At the moment there is a lot of administation work that takes away a lot of time - and everybody who has been participating in similar deals knows how much work that is. So I think we have to be patient.

Fantastic news JohnnyRoy, thanks for delivering. (and good on you Gary Rebholz!)

A week ago many were anticipating the sad demise of our wonderful Vegas.

I really don't think the news could be better.

Edit - I hope someone will try and get Peter Haller back and start working on a new version of Acid Pro!!

That is brilliant news. I've always thought Vegas was too good an all round product to abandon and it looks as though we can expect furrher development of the programme over the coming years.

The take over fully explains the prolonged silence from Vegas as t5his was a commercial deal that inevitably required a high degree of confidentiality as the negotiations progressed. No take over or potential take over or transfer can be discussed or even hinted at in public for fear of damaging the deal or prejudicing its outcome and this is standard practice in the commercial world at large. Well Done Vegas and Well Done Magix.

Now the challenge is to keep this forum and its archive alive and I have to say I have few fears on this score although the name may (or may not) change :).

And VKMast has just added this to tghe MovieStudioZen forum:-

F"urther to the post above:

From Gary Rebholz's (a long-time member of Sonic Foundry and SCS staff) LinkedIn page:

"I'm excited to announce that I have accepted the position of Product Owner with Magix. I will be leading the development team as we shape the future of Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio, now owned by Magix."

A quick look into LinkedIn profiles show some other SCS staffers are moving as well."

Even further encouragement:)

Great news John Rofrano. Thank you for sharing the inside information. Very appreciate it.
And give our thank you too to Gary Rebholz.

The future seems bright...

And John, thanks for developing Ultimate S Pro too. Marker and Render tool is extremely useful to me.

Haha, looks like some of us love speculating? :)

A great thing about having Gary in charge is that he's been the SCS training manager for a long time, so he must really have a great in-depth grasp of what works well and what doesn't from a user perspective. He probably knows the software as it exists as well as anyone on the planet.

This IS great news. One thing I really like about Gary is he is not averse to communicating with us. I look forward to this community having an open and ongoing dialog with the Vegas Product Owner!

JR, that indeed is good news. I'm encouraged Gary is part of the show going forward. I was ready to die hard with Vegas recently upgrading to BCC 10. Shifting to another host doesn't have much appeal especially when Vegas meets all of my needs. I have come to appreciate the color handling of Catalyst Prepare and hope Vegas comes up to date with S-Log handling and such.

I hope vendors such as VASST develop a s strong working relationship with MAGIX. I think this could be a new area for them and their view of Vegas as a professional's resource vs. a consumer oriented product is yet to be seen.

Hi everyone. I can't express how wonderful it is to experience your enthusiasm about the recent acquisition. Good things lie ahead! I want to assure all of you that I will be following what you say in the forums as best I can, even if I won't be able to participate directly as much as I'd like.

I also want to introduce you to Eric D. from our team here in Madison. Eric will be directly involved in the forums on a regular basis. He is your conduit to communicating with the team. Many of you know Eric from his work on the support group at SCS. He's extremely knowledgeable and is here to help you. We want to make sure you feel heard, even if we can't get to all of your requests. Expect an introductory post from Eric in the next day or two.

Again, thank you for all the enthusiasm and support. And thank you JR for helping spread the message!

Here we go!

Gary

One wonders if this means SONY's focus was on their hardware which ultimately led to Catalyst and Vegas was left to languish as no one around here seems to be too satisfied with Vegas' "hardware" focus. We haven't had any real "hardware" focused updates for years.

WOW , wow and wow!

Not only is this great news, but I feel that there will be more communications with us users. I see it already!

In products history, you'll find that the successful products are usually the ones that listen and support their clients...and when they stop, so does the products.

3 cheers for sharing this info and breathing new fresh life! We will be patience, right people?

Just a little suggestion. As a QA manager for a software firm of 3000 clients, we had created a knowledge base that displayed the top ten enhancement that our clients would like. The clients would vote in (basically link themselves to the request) and the development team would select a handful of these enhancement to implement (if it was possible to do), and move the outstanding requests to future releases and voted again. This way not 1 client would hold a monopoly of implemented enhancements.

Anyways, looking forward in supporting the next version of vegas!!

Hip! Hip!

I am as optimistic with this acquisition as I was pessimistic when Sony bought vegas...if that sentence makes any sense.

I like it!
