I'm thinking Cata will become the defacto go-to tool for SONY Camera/Hardware. All this is starting to make sense now.

It doesn't mention Catalyst. I would expect they'd want to get rid of the old Sonic Foundry legacy, but keep Catalyst, because really Catalyst was much closer to being a Sony product than something leftover from the past. It is a companion for their hardware, so I doubt they sold rights to Catalyst.

That sounds promising, if they're taking Catalyst to a different team of programmers in the Sony umbrella, and ditch the forced subscription model. But actually, they're probably just leaving Catalyst with whomever is working on it now, so nothing will change.

A few clarifications:

Catalyst Browse and Catalyst Production Suite will continue to be developed by Sony for professional broadcast and production applications.

Magix will continue to support all current SCS customers who purchased products from Sony to ensure a seamless end user experience.

Looked at their website and they seem to be mostly consumer-oriented. However, they do have one pro-oriented offering --Video Pro X. http://www.magix.com/us/video-pro-x/detail/. Interesting pricing policy.

Oh well. Maybe the current SCS team will change their mind about subscriptions then, and with Vegas out of the way can focus solely on polishing Catalyst. That sounds good.

I guess it will be up to Magix on how to treat the existing user-base wrt upgrade rights, etc. I'm sure they will be sympathetic assuming they wish to continue with developing the products..

The website says their software supports MOV files without QT including import of PRO RES and plans for export. Interesting at least.

So Vegas survives ... sort of ... I'll wait to see what develops.

But one of the best things (actually THE BEST THING) about Vegas was this Forum. All of you that have contributed regularly added GREAT VALUE to Sony Vegas. I always liked Vegas -- but this FORUM made it a no brainier for me to stick with Vegas.

This kind of support on all levels of editing and other related and even unrelated subjects was PRICELESS. I doubt it can be repeated. THANKS is way too small a word !! .. Let's hope that some of the MAGIC here can rub off on MAGIX there.
