DV Capture problem

Hello!

I hope I'm posting this in the right place, I couldn't find a section related to Sony tape decks so sorry if I'm in the wrong place.

I've been capturing batches of DV tapes on a Sony Digital HD Videocassette Recorder HVR-1500 using QuickTime to record and save the footage. I had an American tape and changed the system settings to "59.94i (J)" to process NTSC video, and once that tape went through I changed the settings back to "50i (PAL)" to continue importing all the English tapes.

I now have this bizarre problem that when I use QuickTime to record a tape through the deck, when it has finished recording (all tapes are around 60 minutes), the captured video comes out at 400+ hours!!
The recording finishes earlier than the DV tape actually goes on for (losing about 5 minutes off the end) and there is this timecode of hundreds of hours which is the last frame.

I've tried resetting the tape deck to factory settings but I still have this problem- has anyone encountered this before or can give me any suggestions to get back to normal recording??

Thank you!

Quicktime is not a Vegas or Sony product. Have you tried using Vegas to capture your tapes rather than QT? Have you checked the Apple QT support page for information?

I just re-read your post and it seems you are interested in information on the Tape Deck. This forum does not cover Hardware for Sony Products.

I'm wondering the same thing as DonaldT. These are DV tapes so use the capture utility that's built into Vegas. We know that it works.

Hi KingPip, do you working in Mac as you are using QT?

I notice this is your first post over here..., so need to know your editing environment, just to make sure you are on the right place...

This is Sony Vegas Pro PC-based user forum group, and Sony Vegas has DV Capture utility for capturing DV-based tapes with DV codec.
And instead of using Sony Vegas DV capture utility, there are several free DV capture application you can use, like WinDV (http://windv.mourek.cz/) for example.

But if you are on a Mac, perhaps JohnnyRoy can help as he is a Mac-based user ?

Donald T, thank you very much for the useful redirection, I will try asking there.

Thanks for all the info, I was aware that my post was probably off topic but I couldn't find a support forum for DV capture specifically so I tried here.
Thanks for info I will download WinDV!
