Kinda costly (and subscription based):

Monthly $185; Quarterly $460; Annually $1,470...

Apple Jax, I'm sure you mean well, but please be realistic. Even if SCS discontinued Vegas tomorrow, we'd all be able to continue using it to edit video at HD and even 4k, for a few years, so no panic!

Peter? What happens - tomorrow say - when I would need to have the Serials Phone-Home to get me started again after a reinstall . . etc?

If Autodesk Smoke is anything like Autodesk Fusion they look at things with too much complexity and make the results with too much complexity. That's Why I switched to Meshcam Pro Art which is the Vegas Pro of the CNC world. I create a 2D JPG image in Vegas Pro, transfer it to Meshcam, create a 3D image then select a machining operation for each color and wallah! It will create a G-code solution in minutes and send it out USB. This would takes months in Fusion.

Autodesk Smoke? Yeah right, lol......
Not in this lifetime nor the next, Apple Jax.
And for the record, its no hidden Jewel, sorry.

Grazie, you would need a hacked version (not uncommon) or hack it yourself - if so inclined.

As to moving to Autodesk, not very likely for me. IMO, Autodesk has always been stupidly overpriced.

intel i-4790k / Asus Z97 Pro / 32GB Crucial RAM / Nvidia GTX 560Ti / 500GB Samsung SSD / 256 GB Samsung SSD / 2-WDC 4TB Black HDD's / 2-WDC 1TB HDD's / 2-HP 23" Monitors / Various MIDI gear, controllers and audio interfaces

I haven't looked at Smoke in a decade, but at that time it was a perfect model of Autodesk's mentality of "make the interface difficult enough to justify the price."

The last time I looked at Smoke was at a post house in the Detroit MI area at least 20 years ago. Back then it was somewhere around (as I recall) a $250,000 compositing package and needed a very skilled operator. Not sure how much it's changed over the years.
Mind you, that was back in the days when a single channel ADO was $250,000. These days almost any decent NLE can do several channels for a LOT less money. Gotta love technology :)

@Apple Jax,

Smoke??? Really? As far as I'm concerned, it is an overpriced, overly complicated, subscription money pit. I found it very frustrating to work with.

Could you explain to us on what basis do you believe that Smoke is a "hidden jewel"? Also, I would like to know if you have actually downloaded their software and tried it out, or are you basing all your judgment merely on what you read on their web site?

FWIW,
my process is to create cineform proxys in Resolve, edit in V12, then color and render in Resolve. All audio is mixed in Vegas. As long as I don't do anything stupid, I should be able to do that for years.

Edit: Autodesk also has a bad habit of EOL applications like my beloved XSI, that I'm also keeping alive forever. So there's that to think about too.

Maybe all companies that start with "A" are the spawn of Satin. (Apple, Autodesk, Adobe....)
