I am currently using FruityLoops and I want to move a little deeper into music. I've used ACID 3.0 but it was cracked and had lots of glitches (and I had no idea how to use it). I want to buy it but it's expensive. I was hoping I could get some input from you guys. Does it work well with Midi? How does this compare to FruityLoops? Does it loop Midi? Thankyou. |

If you look around, the full version of ACID Pro 3 can be had for about $250. It's a tad pricey, yeah, but it's quite powerful and a compliment to any home studio setup. Worth it just to have 24-bit support. Have you tried the demo yet? It'll give you a great idea on what the full version is all about. It's worked pretty well with MIDI for me thus far (though I don't use MIDI sequencing that often if at all). It'll loop any MIDI file you have. Iacobus |

Also, take into consideration that it's a very different program than Fruity Loops. Acid really can't create loops like FL does, it takes loops and allows you to arrange them. You can, for example, take the loops that you created in FL and work them into a song with Acid... FYI, some retailers are offering ACID Pro 3 w/ 3 loop discs for about $200 (Mars and Guitar Center spring to mind), which is WELL worth the price. |

I haven't ever tried using MIDI with ACID, so i can't speak from personal experience, but i see a lot of people posting in this forum complaining that it's one of ACID's weakest points. Do a search in the ACID forum for midi and you'll see lots of opinions on it. |

yes acid to me is just a audio seqeuncer for loops. It is very easy to use. that is where it's power lies, ease of use. if you work with discreet sound files that maybe looped or have a beat, Acid is it. I even use Acid to arrange non looping samples. It is expensive sure... but this is what i did. i bought acid 2 for used $30 (legally) then i upgraded for $150 to acid pro 3. here's acid 2 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1520072992 good luck |

Acid's MIDI support is a joke! When you record MIDI you can not change the patch or bank until after you're done recording. So, basically you have to record using the default bank and patch and then change it afterwords. There is also no way of editing MIDI -- you have to use a separate MIDI editor. In addition, Acid uses the Microsoft soft synth by default which is kind of buggy. Acid is okay for MIDI if all you want to do is take an existing MIDI file and include it in your project. However, if you want to record and compose using MIDI I would use a dedicated MIDI sequencer. |

Acid 3.0 pro is an amazingly robust program, a great introduction into the world of loop-based music creation whose capacity for complexity grows with your understanding of the program. Once you get the feel of the interface you'll be whipping out cool music - I personally find it much more intuitive than FL. What Acid is not is a MIDI sequencer. Sure it can handle MIDI but only in the most basic way. But from what I understand FL has a sequencer (though damned if I can figure out how to use it). The combination of the two programs you do you pretty right. |

If ACID sin't too strong in the area of MIDI, that'a allright. I own Home Studio 2001 which is pretty good for midi sequencing. I know HS and FL like the back of my hand. Adding ACID to the mix will provide new opportunites. I'm definately gonna buy this pretty soon. |

Acid Pro & Home Studio 2002 are my main tools too along with Gigastudio. This combination does everything I need, but your mileage may vary... Acid is sooo fast to work with and I find it perfect to do my arrangements in a visual way, especially the drum parts. I took advantage of an earlier bundle-offer of Acid Pro + Sonic Forge XP + Vegas Le for just usd 99 and have never looked back. |

Hello, You can put songs together much faster in Acid than you can in Fruity Loops, but if your using FL 3.4, Acid does not have near the automation that Fruity Loops has, And it does not have any support for software synths like Fruity does. I use them both together but for different things. If I'm going to put together already made loops (no recording) then I'll use Acid, but If I'm going to do recording then I use Vegas, If I'm going to make loops I use Acid and Fruity. But for Midi, and creating Midi loops, I use Cubasis and Fruity, W/Softsynths. For an all in one program for under $100.00 Fruity is great, but Acid can do alot of things that fruity can't and so on......... The point is they all compliment each other. So if you can afford Acid, get it.But You could also try some of the less expensive versions like Acid Music. See ya, Rockit |
