Subject:only get sound out of one speaker on line in

I am outputing from a roland br-8 into the line in on my sound card. unfortunately, I am only able to hear sound from the left speaker. This occurs on line in and when i record in stereo. however, if i record in mono, the recoreded file (mp3, wav, etc...) does play out of both.

is it my cables? my sound card? do i need a sound card with left and right rca inputs?

Check the mixer control panel for your sound card and make sure the balance control for the line input is centered. It seems from your description that it might be pushed all the way to one side.

I did check that, and it is centered. :(

I'm sorry, should have added this last night ... did you check the line input in both Recording and Playback?
