Vegas Pro 14? Maybe

rs170a wrote on 4/8/2016, 1:02 PM
Rather than clutter up an already long and convoluted thread, I decided to start a new one.
At the tail end of no Vegas Pro 14 :(, users HVH Films and VMP posted links to what would seem to be Pro 14 Suite boxes.
There was a rather heated discussion about these links on the Sony Vegas editors Facebook page with most of us agreeing that it's a scam.
Having said that, one Facebook group poster decided to contact Sony directly and here's their reply to him.

I questioned to Sony Creative Software support about some online stores selling Vegas Pro 14 Suite, if this was true or lie. The answer was:
- Kim N.: We do not have a Vegas Pro 14 available at this time so those are most likely inaccurate listings.

Then I asked if there will be a Vegas Pro 14 or not:
- Kim N.: There is a version 14 being worked on, but there have been some unanticipated delays so it's not available at the moment. We don't know when it will be released but it is being worked on.

Interesting times indeed :)

Mike

"Worked on" sounds good .. but "unanticipated" delays sounds bad as does "we don't know when it will be released " ... Personally, I'm fine being up in the air for at least another year but not much longer.

Would the SCS products listed in the link below be inaccurate too?

Well, if you read the carefully worded reply they do fit a product which was being launched and is withhold due to unexpected delay...."not available at the moment"...
rs170a wrote on 4/8/2016, 2:56 PM
VMP, I looked and Synnex is listed as an official Sony distributor.
The plot gets more interesting :)

Certainly companies like BorisFX seem to think there is no V14 coming. I hope they're wrong.
videoITguy wrote on 4/8/2016, 4:46 PM
Take a look at the nature of the company - Synnex- is it a major player in distribution retail channels? Is it a wholesaler? Traditionally the major retail outlets worldwide are Videoguys and Amazon for SCS software into the retail channel. Often they have the heads up on upcoming distribution because that is the nature of their capacity - sell when and IF it is released. Synnex is NOT that kind of outlet.
VMP wrote on 4/8/2016, 5:12 PM
videoITguy,

I am not sure I understand your point.
Vegas seems to be available on all the channels you mentioned:

Videoguys:
http://www.videoguys.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=vegas+pro+13+suite

Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SVDVD13000-Vegas-Pro-13/dp/B00JI540P4

Or do you mean specifically Vegas Pro 14? I think it's because it isn't officially announced yet.
Maybe they already have made a page for V14 which is hidden for the moment.

Well, I guess maybe we'll find out on April 16th when the NAB show starts.

My 2 cents:

If it has problems, don't release it.
DGates wrote on 4/8/2016, 6:31 PM
It's weird we have to go through all these intermediary sites to find out information, when we're already ON Sony's website here! I never understood the silly secrecy, considering no other editing software companies are really that concerned with Sony Vegas anymore.
videoITguy wrote on 4/8/2016, 6:44 PM
When a major retail outlet like VideoGuys (they sell worldwide) is alerted behind the scenes of an upcoming version change by the manufacturer, their agreement is to offer huge clearance reductions on the present version so that stock can be rapidly depleted. This would be in anticipation of demand for the new version.

A vendor such as Synnex offers no such stock reduction exchange because their sales are entirely based on orders, not on anticipated demand. They probably sell a few copies of VegasPro for the entire year. They are a custom shop which has no real play in the distribution of manufactured software stock by a company as SCS.
PeterDuke wrote on 4/8/2016, 6:49 PM
If there are problems, SCS themselves do not know if and when there will be a new edition. Any vague announcement they might make won't quell gossip and speculation.

To announce or not to announce, that is the question. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
VMP wrote on 4/8/2016, 7:25 PM
Thanks videoITguy, I understand now how one could guess the arrival of a new software there.

Dear Sony, i sent you some of these in the suggestion form. If you want to be taken more seriously with indie and feature film makers, you will need some of the following:

-Better ASIO support with all cards, some I/O settings on the audio card do not show up or show up differently under the audio device preferences
-Better surround mixing with large projects, no choppy playback or audio dropouts
-Full support for 3rd party surround plugins on all buses and especially on the master bus
-Better nesting support, one should not have to render to an intermediate codec before laying the file on a master timeline. Nests should retain all original plugins, channels and assignments.
-DCP export
-Full and real 10bit output for all third party supported codecs
-Better CUDA and video card acceleration including all NVIDIA Quadro's and others
-A better GUI on the mixer, those tiny faders make it look amateur sorry. Look at audition, nuendo and protools faders and you'll know what i mean.

Vegas is a powerhouse and is the most intuitive editor on the market. Take it to the next level.

This is coming from a short and feature film maker.

Thanks for looking.

"Certainly companies like BorisFX seem to think there is no V14 coming. I hope they're wrong."

Where did you get this info re Borisfx? When I spoke with a Boris rep a couple months ago he stated a Boris 10 for VP will be forthcoming. Didn't give a time frame, but I'm sure they are waiting for VP14 to stabilize (perhaps).

well nab is just around the corner so i suppose we'll hear something, or maybe not. either way this hiatus has caused more than a few of us to seek second strings to our tool chests, which, though good for the other nle producers doesn't bode that well for vegas.

from my pov i played with ppro (again), and realised that it had matured quite considerably since i'd last written it off. edius however still looks too stodgy and old school, capable as it is, so i ended up playing with and adopting resolve. this hasn't lessened my liking for vegas, but it's certainly shows up vegas dated, well dated everything....

if scs is going to put out 14 it really is going to have to be a significant upgrade. a few more bells and whistles isn't going to cut it anymore as far as i'm concerned. 13 has displayed the stability and robustness that first attracted me to vegas and i am more than happy i paid for it. BUT vegas doesn't need any more gimmicks, it simply needs to move into the 21st century. vfw is history, most other nle's have taken gpu acceleration in their stride, gui's look professional - and that really does matter to the new generation of editors / producers. and under the bonnet, well, there's been bugs in vegas (as in all nle's), but some in vegas have been noted for literally years and nothing has been done about them.

having played with catalyst i've found prepare very useful indeed, in fact it's my go to tool for ingestion. but edit, well, meh. might be something i'd look at in the future when it's more than a simple editor, but it does have a long road to travel.

meanwhile, i'm keeping my fingers crossed, but not holding my breath....

I have been hoping that Vegas Pro 14 would be announced at NAB this year. Still might happen. Maybe the "delay" was why it wasn't released last September.

Also hoping for a Panasonic GH5 announcement too a NAB.

K-Decisive wrote on 4/11/2016, 2:08 PM
probably a dumb question to ask, but is there an official bug list?

If they could get .mov support / fixed and up to date that would go a long way.

It looks like BCC 10 is going to be released for Vegas and Catalyst. PR is out for NAB. You can find it on the Boris site.

>It looks like BCC 10 is going to be released for Vegas and Catalyst. PR is out for NAB. You can find it on the Boris site.

I see that and also that it is new for Davinci Resolve as well. Is this the same OFX version or would there be some difference between the two versions?

I know that I see my Vegas BCC9 Vegas plugins in Resolve and they seem to function ok.
