I can't figure out why I keep getting clicking and popping sounds in my recordings. I have a good soundcard, mic, and pre-amp, so if anyone can tell me what might cause this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, your issue might be your hard drive. An older drive might not spin at a sufficient speed to allow recording. The best HD to use is a UDMA drive, with a rotational speed of 60,000rpm.

Check up on your drive, and see if that might be it...

It could be an IRQ conflict. If your audio card is sharing an IRQ with another device it will cause the symptoms you describe. Audio cards typically do not like to share IRQ's with other devices. If that is the case, try moving the audio card to another unocuppied IRQ thru Windows, or by physically moving the card(PCI I assume) to another slot. It may also be a crappy audio driver issue as well. These are the usual suspects though.

EIDE drives runs 5,400 or 7,200 rpm. laptop drives runs slower. I don't think drives that runs at 60,000 rpm are invented yet.

Can you post what your soundcard is (model)? Is it Delta by Midiman?

also, please post your OS and system specs. i have similar problems with acid 3, in which small segments of wavs that are being recorded are dropped, somewhat randomly. this leaves occaisional clicks but also results in severe timing problems as tracks progress. i suspect it's a win2k driver-related issue but haven't been able to prove it since i only have one soundcard. i'm using an Echo gina24. if you have the same/similar problem with a different card it would be handy to know.

I can say that if your OS is Win 98, Win2K or WinXp and you installed ACPI you cannot get away from sharing IRQ. Not all soundcard are created equal so I would say it depends to the soundcard you are using. My suggestion is to pick a soundcard that has or uses WDM drivers.

Okay, thanks for the suggestions, but I'm not sure what the problem is yet. So here is what is on my computer. I hope this helps.
PC Chips Motherboard
Celeron 366 processor
Win98
Western Digital Drive Ata33
Also for those that were wondering I'm using an Echo Mia sound card.

I'm not sure what other people are getting by with but I am using a 1700mhz pc. I would think you maybe pushing it on a 366. I put some music software on my girlfriends pc and hers almost pushing it with here 333mhz gateway. Also, I don't use any other software on my PC ie: AOL , video games. I know AOL used to give me problems when I used ACID on the same pc as AOL. That was on my 733mhz. Make sure there is nothing in your start up. Check your PC resources and it should be at atleast 94% before you open ACID. Also if you have AOL on the same PC Do not use AOL before a session. If you do restart your PC.
Also if you have a Gateway's like I do make sure you disable Go back software. Also disable screensavers and virus programs as well, during your sessions. Even though there not actually on they are always tapping your hard drive. These are just the things that worked for me.

Son--Sorry, dude, the Celeron's gotta go! My 600 was deemed "marginal" by SF, so yours is a certified cufflink. Also, the 33 drive is a no-no, way too slow. Plus you need massive RAM to run as many tracks as possible out of RAM, and not the HD at all.

I had the same problems with my C600 and most of them cleared up with a Mia like you've got on an Athlon 1G with 512 RAM and an ATA100 7200rpm drive. That's about the minumum to run Acid well these days, and it'll only go up with the next rev.

Celerons are just no damn good for A/V, no matter what the speed. Durons are a tiny bit better, but not much. Stick to the workhorse CPUs. The new P4's are rockin'--don't go near the last rev of 'em tho.
