Problems right off the bat...

Just purchased and installed MS Platinum. System is Gateway DX3400, AMD Phemom 9750 Quad-Core 2.40GHz, 8 G ram, 64 bit, Windows 7, so I exceed minimum requirements by a bit. Am also an experienced editor. From the start, MS was very slow in responding, would freeze up importing media, would not scrub, basically very unresponsive. No other programs were running at the time. I routinely edit HD material without problems in my other editing program, so am at a loss to what's going on.

What format is the material you are importing?

They were m2t files. Something I had previously edited in my other program. Each were about 40 minutes long.

From a Sony camera?

Sorry, but what difference where the files are from? They're just files, not captures. It takes over a minute and a half to LOAD a project consisting of 2 elements, which should be 10-15 seconds, tops. When I press the spacebar for play/pause/play, it takes 10-15 seconds for it to start playing the second time. If I press on one object and then another, it freezes. All of this with no other processes in the background.

What version of MS?

They may be "just files" but having more info will help, past the Text view results from MediaInfo (download from net).

Have you searched the forum for posts from others having problems with .m2t files?

m2t are transport streams..
It does make a difference where they came from.
Without knowing any file or project details, I don't see how anyone who has responded can help.

That said, Sony Vegas MS Platinum 13 should have absolutely no problem opening and previewing HDV MPEG-2, if that's indeed what they are, and they are relatively free of errors.

Thanks for your suggestions. Given that these are files that have been dealt with flawlessly with another program, and that it is not just video files but still images and program generated titles, it's not the media's fault. If I click on two things in succession, without anything in the media pane or the timeline, it freezes for 10-15 seconds. Again, my system has been rock-solid for 5+ years, and I've edited several hundred projects with no problems.

What you've told us is that your quad isn't keeping up with the real-time demands of previewing timeline fx and generated media. There are a number of ways to tackle this, but you'll need to be willing to share the requested information and to embrace a well-traveled learning curve in order to to optimize the preview and take the load off your CPU and memory while editing. Part of that may involve various Prerender options, since you are running an older processor.

My dual-core laptop will open, trim, and render m2t just fine, but you are asking an entirely different question.

To start, open your files on the timeline and Match Media settings via the prompt or Project Properties tab. Do they now preview at full fps at Best/Full setting?

Hi Byll,

Folks are trying to help. If you provide some specific information, the solution to your problem may be identified.

A screen shot of your project properties and a Mediainfo text file of your source files may provide a lot of insight for those to help.

I have Movie Studio 12 & 13 Platinum, running on an old dual core machine and haven't had the issues you are experiencing. I'm sure you are an experienced editor, nonetheless, if you could post some specifics, it may help us to help you find a solution.

And, out of curiosity, what is the NLE you have been using before Movie Studio for these same type source files?

Best Regards.....George
