Can I globally change a single event in a chain?

I want to change a single “Video Event FX” in the chain of each of many events on a timeline without changing all the Video Event FX in the chain.

USE CASE:
Assume I have 50 events on a timeline; each with 3 Video Event FX: BORDER, COLOR CURVES, and LEVELS. After customizing each of the events I decide I want to change the BORDER of all 50 events without affecting the other video events in the chain (COLOR CURVES and LEVELS).

I think I am out of luck and must do it manually but thought I would ask. I’m running VP13 and have both Vegasaur and TimelineTools, but didn’t see an option that would do what I needed. I also did a search on this forum, but no luck although it is probably here somewhere.

Thanks in advance,
Rich

I don't know of a way but it's a good request for a script. However unfortunately nobody seems to have cracked a way to copy and paste selective FX in a chain, so it might be impossible.

If the border is the same throughout then you could change them pretty quickly with a preset. I use temporary presets to copy FX settings as much as pasting event attributes. Or you could disable or delete the existing borders and add one at track level or even video bus level.

Hmmm, I think I've got this correct:

NB : Do this to a Test.veg first:

1] On one event make your changes.

2] Save this as a Plugin PACKAGE.

3] Now select/highlight that Event and either Copy and Paste Event or.....

4] Select remaining Events and apply the Plugin Package

You can do this with Timeline Tools, and probably with Vegasaur and other Vegas Extensions, but it requires that you save your new PlugIn settings as a Preset, then apply that Preset to your targeted Events.

In your example open the Border Plugin of the Event that has the desired changes you want to apply to the other Events. Click on the drop down list box of Preset names, and type in the new name you want to give to your desired settings. Then press the disk icon to the right of the name to save this as a new selectable Preset. Close the Video Event FX dialog.

In Timeline Tools, Select (not Highlight) the events in the main grid that you want to receive the new Border settings. Then click on the Vegas PlugIns Tab. Scroll down in the list of PlugIns until you find the Border PlugIn. Right click on the PlugIn and select the Add, Insert or Replace Selected PlugIn menu option. Choose your newly created Preset From the drop down list. Check Apply to Selected Events only to replace the settings of the existing PlugIn. Lastly press OK.

That's it.

A problem can arise, however, if you've already done your color grading to your events using levels and curves. If they are all the same, then no problem, but most likely they will be different for each event (at least for me, they usually are). In those instances, simply applying a new preset means you have to regrade. What is needed is a means to simply replace one preset with another in an existing chain, so that the other FX and order remain unchanged. I would think this be a pretty easy task for a good script writer.

SUCCESS!

Thank you to all that replied and TimelineTools. Using TLT I successfully changed a single plugin without affecting other plugins which was a concern mentioned by WWAG.

I made a cheat sheet and will leave it in my public dropbox for a few days for anyone needing step by step instructions.

@Rich

Thanks for sharing your cheat sheet. It's good to know that it works.
