Will someone PLEASE corner a Sony engineer at NAB and get some info on the future of VP. I would but am not attending this year.

I found the exhibitor list,

http://nab16.mapyourshow.com/7_0/exhibitor/exhibitor-list.cfm?export=pdf

that shows,
Sony Electronics Inc. C11001

but No SCS.

Sony has at least one new camera coming out about that time and probably wants to show it/them off.

As for SCS, it may be too soon for them to be on the list?

And as for Vegas Pro, what is left for them to do with it?

SCS has been part of the main Sony booth for a while now.

Oh not much. Just port it over to full assembly so it runs from a 10MB executable about 10 times faster than it does now. And while they're at it fix all of the bugs.

....update to current technologies, other cameras codecs, 8k, etc etc etc

Yes, the outdated under-the-hood APIs/Libraries are quite outdated.
Updating to the latest CUDA and openCL would be nice.

Someone recently posted that VP is based on VFW only - not D.X
Obviously, major structural changes would require substantial
rewrites - perhaps that's why they've taken so long to produce
an update.

There is not going to be any VegasPro re-write of any base code.
Turn your attention to Catalyst Prepare and Edit suite, if you want to follow SCS into the future.

which is looking quite bleak given the present state of catalyst ;-(

The VP12 to VP13 paid upgrade -- hands up who really got some actual benefit from it, i.e. in some way that you didn't already do in some other software, e.g EBU R128). SCS have a moral obligation to either declare VP dead, OR state categorically that the future development path is towards Catalyst (kind of obvious really) AND that faithful VP fan will be taken care of (hopefully not in a Hoffa kind of way ....)

DeathRadioStar, your comment above without punctuation or sentence structure does not make any sense at all.

Perhaps you want SCS to hold up a big sign in the marketing department and announce to all that VegasPro stops here!

Dude, it is not going to happen. No company would ever do, (or has done) such a thing.

adobe came close with going sub only and leaving cs6 as eol software ;-)
