Setting text duration time

Hello all, I'm coming from Windows Movie Maker and like the way you set how long a text box will be displayed. I understand you can adjust the duration on the timeline, but really would like to set the time in seconds. I found a duration time in the edit generated media, but it doesn't seem to do anything when I change it.

Also I use the plain Jane Sony Movie Studio 13 (not the Platinum version) and really haven't found much in the way of tutorials and videos on the basic version. Any help in that area would be appreciated. Thanks!

Editing the text event duration in the Media Generator window doesn't change the length of the event on the timeline.

However, after doing so, you'll see a little indention at the top of the event that indicates the end of the event. If you started out at 5 seconds and change it to 10, drag the end of the event to the right and you'll see it. If you make it shorter in duration, you'll see the indentions and drag the end of the event left.

If you set the event length on the timeline, open the text box and click on the Match Event Length button.

In the Help menu, does it have a Show Me How option? If so, tutorials can be found there. Not sure if they're included in the basic MS version though. The Help contents and index should be pretty robust though.

Thanks. This is actually for an older friend who is trying to learn how to use MS. I just adjust the size of the clip in the timeline, that's easiest for me, but he likes to do it like it works in WMM. I generally can figure out how to do things, but sometimes it take awhile.
