I finished my current project, saved all of my settings, installed the new motherboard, CPU and the full (No more OEM's for me!) version of windows 10 pro, and then restored all of my settings and Vegas.

Just for kicks, I tried my old boot from a backup on the new system just to see how big a mess it makes. And it indeed made a BIG mess!

Do yourself a huge favor. If you want to upgrade, finish your project first, then do the hardware upgrade and finally do a clean install of Windows, etc.

Even if you just wanted to upgrade to Windows 10 from an earlier version of Windows, I highly recommend doing a clean install instead. I have done upgrades in the past and while they do work, they also cause unexplained crashes when using Vegas.

I did an upgrade from Windows 7 using the free version of Windows 10 and would get BSOD's on a regular basis. I went back to Windows 7 again for a while.

With my new hardware and clean install, I have yet to have a crash using Vegas. Some time ago, I had upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and had problems. I finally did a clean install of Windows 7 and ALL of the problems were gone!

Finish current project, save settings, install new hardware, clean install of Windows, install Vegas and other apps, restore settings and then start the next project.

Backup, Backup and Backup!!!

A clean installation gets the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.
