Need help with Vimeo problem

craftech wrote on 2/18/2016, 12:08 PM
Referring to this question I have had luck using Handbrake to create 2 hour rehearsal videos of a reasonable file size and uploading them to YouTube.

The problem I have is with Vimeo. After paying for Vimeo Plus, I am unable to create a video that can be scrubbed along the Vimeo timeline rendering them useless. Here is an example:

https://vimeo.com/155852086/37ba9390f6

No matter where you drag the cursor along the timeline it is still playing from the beginning. Again, same video on YouTube (for free) - no problem.

Here it is on YouTube:

Any ideas?

Thanks,

John

Works fine for me... I can drag anywhere. It plays from the dragged to point.

You can drag it anywhere but it is still playing from the beginning no matter where you drag it.

I'm with Tom; plays and scrubs as expected on Firefox.
Since we are unable to duplicate, try different browser/player combinations.

Works fine here too. Maybe you have to press play first and then drag.

Works fine on Windows IE. I was able to place the cursor along the timeline and it would play that area.

Using Firefox, I cannot get it to behave at all. Using Vivaldi (similar to Chrome) it seems to buffer better and then it works. But if you drag it beyond the buffer it starts playing from the beginning while the counter is counting at the place you have the cursor. In other words it is counting at say 1:25:01 and it is playing the beginning while the counter is going at the correct spot.

I also have apps that switch back and forth between the HTML 5 player and Flash Player and the same problem occurs.

Maybe it has something to do with Windows XP? No problem with YouTube though.

Has anyone compared the two above with one another. If not, would you please?

Thanks,

John

OK .. on my WinXP laptop and FFox 28.0, it behaves as you described it. Drag and it always plays from the beginning...

Must be a browser problem. Works fine here in Microsoft Edge, and latest version of Chrome, but I also have Safari and it plays just as you describe. Safari is old. (on PC)

Agree with ddm.
With Safari 5.1.7 on Win7, I can only drag 'n'play within the already buffered portion, otherwise it goes to the end of the buffered portion if I drag to outside of it.

Works perfectly with Win7 and Chrome browser.

OK, so I tried it on my wife's iPad Mini and it worked perfectly.

Either way, it is useless to me if no one has a solution. It has to play on anyone's system

Try rendering with web optimized in Handbrake.
craftech wrote on 2/18/2016, 5:29 PM
Did that, but thanks Musicvid.

Also, Vimeo has guidelines for rendering which I followed.

Works fine in Chrome for me. And I have a slow internet connect...

So Vimeo has a 30 day refund policy.

I really didn't want to ask for it, but the above issue is common place and unacceptable. A Google search reveals that.

I described the problem to Vimeo's and to their credit, they gave me a refund immediately. I wrote back and told them that if they fix the problem, I will purchase Vimeo Plus again.

Even of a few customers have this issue, it is unacceptable.
