Can you set legacy text as default? VP13

Unfortunately the default 'Sony tiles & text' is not giving good results.
To mention a few, the line breaks are not as shown in the preview window, and it doesn't support many fonts.

The previous legacy text is much better, but is there a way to set this as default when adding text media on the timeline?

There are so many advantages of the newer Text and Titles over Legacy Text. E.g. if you have Vegasaur, you can make changes to however many text events you choose (font, size, style, color, shadow, etc. just to name a few), click, and you're done. If you use Legacy Text, you have to change them "one by one", a bit of a pain if you have very many. Granted, there is a known issue with some fonts not showing up, but there are workarounds for many of those--e.g. if the font opens in Word, type something, copy and paste it into the Text and Titles box. Then save as a preset. You can then apply it to new text events and although the stated font is wrong (the default, Verdana), it will be displayed and rendered correctly. And finally, unless there is some font "you (or you client) can't live without", then find another. Just my opinion.

Wow, two decades of using Vegas and i never realized there was a default for text generator.

I've always dragged an option from the Media generators onto the timeline. That way i've always picked the one i wanted. I guess i never noticed Insert / Text event before.

Gee I didn't know about the default either. The real fact is I don't know about 95% of what Vegas does.

But, JJK, your 5% makes all the difference!

vkmast showed that one could insert Empty Events, Text Media or Generated Media from the timeline back in December. That was the first time I gave it a thought.

Interesting side note: Inserting Generated Media from the timeline adheres to the default time duration in Preferences while dragging from the Media Generator reverts to 10 seconds.

I got hundreds of "(Legacy) Text" events at 720x480 that I want to change to 1920x1080. It has been stated that I have to update them one by one, I'm hoping there is a workaround. Changing them to the new improved "Titles & Text" would be great.

I have "Vegasaur" and "TimeLine Tools", but saw no way to change the resolution. I also want to change the pixel size from 1.2121 to 1.000.

Any suggestions?

VP ahs a build in script that resizes a generated event to match the project settings. Have you tried that? You can select all events on the timeline and the script will only convert a generated media.

Have a look at this. I wrote a script some time ago for doing what you want using an external freeware scripting program, Pullover's Macrocreator. It requires that you copy your legacy text events on to a single track in a new project and place them side by side (easy to do in Vegasaur). It copies each text event into notepad, from which you can create new Text and Tile events using the Text Generation Wizard in Vegasaur. In my opinion, this would be useful only if you really have a lot of events. It's probably not for the faint hearted, but If you're interested you can download the script, as well as the program, Pullover's Macrocreator from Dropbox.

I made a few changes and wrote a short tutorial on how to install and use the scripts. Here is the Dropbox link. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/thq60acz6elazv5/AAACLthIp952nzVSCNJ0SFBya?dl=0 It now works with multi-line titles as well. However, it does not insert the extra line required for direct use in Vegasaur. They would have to be added manually for multi-line titles. Hopefully, it can be of use, especially if you have lots of old legacy titles in a project.

@Oldsmoke, @wwaag,

I luv you guys. The Vegas built-in script "Resize Generated Media" worked. You guys didn't save me hours, you saved me days and my sanity. Been using Vegas for a decade and never ran a script. God I'm going to miss Vegas if it is really is EOL. I'm praying for a miracle.

@wwaag,
I viewed your YouTube video and downloaded your script. I may use it it, but right now, I'm a happy camper with the Vegas built -in script. My events are still a "Legacy Text" events but I can live with that.

thanks,
Rich

I'd love to get 1 on 1 with some of you guys. Your advice on these boards to doing things with Vegas is invaluable. I can only imagine what personal tutoring would be worth.
