If I'm reading the specs for the Decklink Mini Monitor correctly, Vegas Pro is not in the list of supported software:

Supported Software:
Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, Adobe After Effects, Nuke - The Foundry, DaVinci Resolve, Avid Pro Tools, Cubase, Autodesk Smoke, Adobe Photoshop, Avid Symphony, Avid News Cutter, Tools On Air just:in, Tools On Air live:cut, Tools On Air just:play, Tools On Air just:live, Softron OnTheAir MovieRecorder, Softron OnTheAir CG, Steinberg Nuendo, Flash Media Encoder, Wirecast, Livestream Procaster, Resolume Avenue 4, Corel VideoStudio Pro X4, CyberLink Power Director, MAGIX Video Pro X4, Vidcaster Pro, Vidcaster Studio, Vidcaster Broadcast, Uniplay, Playbox AirBox, CasparCG, Magicsoft CG, Steinberg Nuendo, Flash Media Encoder, Xsplit Broadcaster, Wirecast, Livestream Procaster, Harris Infocaster

I'm guessing that this is because the Backmagic Decklink Mini Monitor uses DirectShow and Vegas Pro still uses Video for Windows but I'm not sure that's the reason.

According to Sony's documentation Vegas Pro supports:

Blackmagic Design Decklink HD Extreme, Intensity Pro, or HD Extreme 3D SDI

So the Mini Monitor is not claimed to be supported by Sony nor is Vegas Pro claimed to be supported by Blackmagic so I believe your problem is that you have an unsupported device. :(

According to Sony's Catalyst Edit documentation, it says:

Choose a setting from the External monitor device drop-down list to display your video preview on an external monitor via a

It doesn't list and specific models so perhaps it does! :-D

Does the device work with the Blackmagic Media capture application, or playback with that application? I would make sure you can use the device with the BMD software before giving up. In my experience BMD devices are pretty low tech and require the user to correctly set them up for the purpose. That means being very specific to video format settings.

There is generally a control panel applet and preferences in the application that need to correlate. Once the device is working correctly with the BMD software, then start looking into the issues with Vegas.

It works in Premiere Pro. So there must be some kind of adjustment that I do not know about with Vegas Pro 13

Hmmm... If the card came with any software, I would make sure that the card's properties and your Vegas project properties match (both video and audio). Other than that, I can't imagine what other configuration would be necessary.

You might want to contact Sony Technical Support and see if they agree with BM that the Decklink Mini Monitor is supported by Vegas Pro. It is one of the newer cards and might not be supported yet.

Back in 2013 I had the same trouble and the answer from local support was:
"It appears the DeckLink Mini Monitor does not work in Vegas Pro 12. Apologies for any misinformation regarding that workflow. Other cards such as the DeckLink SDI, Studio and 4K Extreme are all fine in Vegas Pro 12. The Mini Monitor has a slightly different hardware. I have spoken to both parties (BM and Sony) however it appears that a potential fix is not a high priority."
I presume this applies to Vegas 13.

I contacted BM again, and they said:

"After doing some more research I have found that there could have likely been some changes in the newest version of Sony Vegas Pro, which could have an effect on whether or not it is still supported by the Decklink cards. I also found that while we do support Sony Vegas Pro, we only provide support for up to version 9. I would recommend that you contact Sony and see if they know of anything that you would need to do in the software to get it to recognize the Decklink Mini Monitor in the software.

I will contact Sony.

I guess I will not bother with contacting Sony.

The "higher" DecKLink cards do work. I returned my Mini monitor card and installed the Decklink SDI and all works fine with Vegas 13 (and Resolve).
