audio cuts off unexpectedly

I'm using VPro12 and noticed that when I drag an audio file into the timeline, sometimes the audio cuts off toward the end of the audio file even tho I can still see the complete WAV file . When I open the file from Vegas into my editor (Sound Forge), the audio is still cut off. When I listen to the original file... the audio is not cut off. This seems to be a random issue... so hard to figure out. Usually I have to stop, save the project, re-open the project, or even restart Vegas to resolve the issue.

I'm using WIN7-64bit My Vegas Pro 12 version is Build 770

Any help will be much appreciated. This is a huge interruption to our projects.

I just discovered also, after rendering what I thought was a corrected file... there's a blank gap in the audio file rendered.

This worked for me using Sony Sound Forge when I noticed that the audio cuts off at the end and sometimes from the beginning.

1. Make a copy of the audio file
2. Remove all ID3 tags from the copy
3. Process that now ID3-less audio file
4. Re-tag the processed audio file

Step #2 being done in something like Windows Explorer by right-mouse-button clicking on the file name and choosing Properties / Details, rather than editing in Sound Forge and resaving. REG doesn't clearly state what type of file he's opening. He mentions WAV, though that might simply be a reference to the waveform display on the screen. If it is really a WAV file then there aren't any ID3 tags.

I've received a few occasional compressed audio files with this difficulty. What i did that fixed them was to open them in Sound Forge and then immediately save it again as Wave (Microsoft) without doing anything, not even zooming the timeline. If i did any other operation first then the new file was missing the end just like the original.

As chienworks said, make sure your assets are in fact .wav files and no any kind of compressed audio format.
Something else you could try... select a time range which exceeds the length of the audio clip and then "render/time selection". It would be interesting to see if this forces the rendering engine to play all of the audio. Just a thought.

Try opening the file is SF. if that's OK, 'save as' an appropriate Wave file and import to VP.
If it's an MP3, Winamp players support editing/deleting the ID metadata.

I occasionally experience this sort of thing with Vegas 13. Typically an mp3 file I drop on a timeline for a quick edit. Even though the timeline shows the complete wave the last several seconds are silent when played from the timeline as well as the from the rendered file.

Saving the project and restarting Vegas fixes it every time. It happens randomly but at least now I do a quick check before rendering.
