I've seen other posts about this but none with 8.0

Guitar is plugged into the pc using a USB 2.0 Rocksmith cable.
Headphones are also plugged into the pc with a USB 2.0

Insert Track..... Arm for Record....
Play the Guitar and the meter registers on the track and in the mixer. but no sound through the headphones.

Hit Record and play the guitar. The Meter registers on the track and on the timeline.. BUT NOT in the mixer. And still NO sound through the headphones.

Hit Stop, The Recorded Files window pops up Click Done
Hit the play button, Meter registers in the Audio and Master sections of the mixer and PERFECT Sound comes through the headphones.......

Windows 7 64bit Home
Acid Music Studios 8.0 Build 178

I don't believe that ACID Music Studio 8 supports monitoring through the software while recording (I forget it's so old). What that means is that you need to monitor at the audio device level.

You need to get is a proper USB audio device to plug both the guitar and headphones into like the PreSonus AudioBox USB. That will allow you to plug your guitar and regular headphones (not USB) into a single USB audio device and monitor the guitar through the headphones on the audio device while recording.

Try this procedure. It works in both Windows 7 and Windows 10, so you should be able to do it in Windows 8.

Get to your Desktop then:
1 - Right click on your volume control icon on the right side of the Task Bar at the bottom of the screen.
2 - Select "recording devices". A window with your audio recording devices will open.
3 - Double left click your recording device in the window.
4 - Yet another window will open. Select the "Listen" tab and check the "Listen to this device" radio button.
5 - Click "Apply" and close all windows.

See if that will solve your problem.

I suppose it depends on the drivers that come with the device, but when i try Mike's method, whatever i set as the "listen" device also becomes the recording device, and vice versa. I am unable to use a different device for listening than recording. What i've got connected are an M-Audio Transit, a Tascam US-1800, and the onboard sound device.

Hopefully i'm just hitting limitations of the drivers from those manufacturers and you'll have better luck. Apparently Mike does! But, if you end up with the same thing happening that i've got don't pull your hair out over it. ;)

What is supposed to happen with my procedure is you're telling Windows to let you hear what you are recording while you are recording it (don't forget about latency). It doesn't affect my default recording device in Acid and I am still able to select in Acid what my Playback device is (speakers, ASIO output device, etc). I am currently using Acid Music Studio 9. However, this worked in my version of AMS 8, also. Or perhaps I have misunderstood Chienworks comments.

To help solve the latency problem, get an ASIO driver if you don't already have one. You'll be able to essentially get rid of latency. You can use it with USB or analog inputs. I use ASIO4ALL, it's free.

Look in the help file for "Record input monitoring". That's what will solve that problem. You enable it on the track you are about to record.

The Focusrite Scarlett Solo has it's own ASIO drivers. Those are the ones you should be using. You do not want to use ASIO4ALL. That's only for audio chips that don't have their own drivers. Go into Options | Preferences | Audio Device and make sure that the Focusrite ASIO drivers are selected. If you don't see that option, you forgot to install the driver that came with the Scarlett. Go back and install it.
