VV3a - Not happy...

RevF wrote on 3/1/2002, 1:40 PM
After being dicked around for 3 months awaiting SoFo to bring out the update for VV3 to enable it to work with Plextor drives... It doesn't. Disk-at-once still hangs the machine - it wont do the lead out after burning the tracks. Know anybody who wants to buy a Plextor 24/10/40 ? Or does anyone know of a piece of s/w that has CDA's capabiltities other than VV3?

We are still working with Plextor on this issue. It's not an easy fix nor have we yet completely figured out what is going on.

The Plextor 24/10/40 does work on some machines, but unfortunately not on all of them. (including one of mine) And to further complicate the issue, even newer Plextor burners (such as the 40x) seems to work just fine in Vegas 3.

Rest assured that it's something that we are trying to fix.

Do you have CD Architect? If so, you can download a nifty little (and I mean little) freeware app called CDPBurn which will burn any CD Arch project files to most MMC-compliant drives, even if not supported by CDA. You'll have to create your project using CDA (since VV3 projects won't save as .cdp file), so you lose a little of the flexibility of Vegas (like being able to work w/ multiple file types on multiple tracks), but it's a good interim fix perhaps.

Hope this helps.

No consolation I know but I can confirm that 'The Plextor 24/10/40 does work on some machines': it works for me.

Windows XP Professional
Asus A7V266-E
Plextor W2410A (firmware v1.03)

Yikes, you're kidding. No worky with this update?

If I were you I would dump that model plextor and either up or down-grade a model.
Do you want to wait for the next sf "update"?

No - I don't want to wait! 3 months is enough already! SoFo recommended a TDK 24/10/40 - so I'll probably go for one of those. It would seem that the Plextors are fine in XP but not in 98se. Going XP would open a 'whole new can of worms' for me in terms of other hardware! I just got the brush off from Plextor - saying it was SoFo's problem and that all their drives were the same... Guess who just lost their "professional" status in the CD-burner world? If Plextors wont work with the only s/w capable of pro-burning of audio-CDs, studios will have to ditch them.
TDK here I come. - Thanks All.

Hi RevF
I've run the Yamaha's and Sony 24x10x40 CDRWs fine in Vegas Video 3.0
On Win2k and Win98se without any problems.
Just another option.

RevF: I can relate to your stuggles with the burner issue as I'm going through similar problems and frustrations. I would very much appreciate your letting me know how your TDK decision pans out. There's a bunch of new ones on ebay and I was thinking of going that route if it turns out good with your setup. I'm sticking with 98se for the unforseeable future as its been nice and stable and I don't want to mess with it. You can contact me directly at drbam@cableone.net Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, are these SCSI or IDE Plextor drives? I have a SCSI Plexwriter 4/2/20 that works great with 2000 and worked great in 98se as well. Again, just curious.

EIDE. SoFo said stay away from USB/firewire. Not sure of SCSI though.
Anyone know of any combi-drives (DVD) that work with VV3?

I am happy with the Pioneer AO3, IDE version. CD burning from Vegas works great. With Vegas + other apps I can burn Audio CD, Data CD, VCD, SVCD, DVD-r and DVD-RW.

I picked up a SONY DVD+RW, and the Yamaha 24x on Win2k they both work fine with Vegas 3.0a

Thanks for the info guys.
Is the Pioneer working under Win98SE?
MacMoney's Sony & Yamaha are under Win2K.

I also have a Yamaha 24x10x40 on Win98se but a Creative DVD Ram (don't get a Creative)

Try using a different vendor's ASPI driver. Go to www.goldenhawk.com. They have a few different ASPI drivers you can download. I personally took the ASPI DLL from my Nero directory and put it in my system32 directory an all my CD-R problems went away like magic.

Was this with 98SE?

I see five (four different) Winaspi32's on the Nero CD.
Which did you use? - and do you mean system32 - or system?
Thanks.

Hmm. My 40x doesn't work so hot. 12x burns aren't going to cut it.
