Subject:Audible pop after removing a drop out

I've been working in both Sony Vegas and Sound Forge doing some mixing and editing to a friend's song that we tracked. I kept noticing small drop outs in the vocal track so I opened the it in Sound Forge. The 1st drop out I removed worked great, it flowed perfectly and I couldn't tell anything. The next 2 however retained a very audible pop or click after I removed the drop out. I tried extending the amount beyond each edge of the drop out I cut out and it still didn't remove it. I then tried fixing it with the pencil tool. Still no good. I even tried the Click & Crackle Plug In and it only reduced the level of it but you could still tell it.

The edit looks fine. I can't see any problem with it at all but there's still a pop. I even made sure I was on the -Inf line on both ends of each edit I tried.

How do you get rid of that pop after you've taken out the drop out?

Graphic fade perhaps? Select just a millisecond to either side of the edit point and then create a V shaped fade.

You're sure you don't see a spike even when you zoom in 1:1?

No sir, there is no spike. That's what's so maddening about it? I'll try the fade. Thanks!

Just double-checking something. You made sure to make your edit at a zero-crossing in the waveform, correct?

That's what I'd expect - it's left some residual that is invisible, but the ear picks it up.

What I don't understand is why "Zero" isn't the norm - and you would Select "Non-Zero" only when you need it . . . . .
When using the Drawing tool for example.
Most-times I haven't noticed much difference, although the Counter does change, showing I wasn't quite spot-on.
Another way would be to "Snap to Zero" which would make life so much easier.

I'm using the Studio version - so need all the Help I can get !!!
