Formatting Mac video for PC (Win 7)

I've got an SD card with clips that were recorded on a Mac which I now want to use on a PC in vegas. I was about to format the SD card until a message told me formatting will delete all data on the card. Do I need to get imovie for PC and convert it there or something? How can I get the video to be ready to use in VMS on Win 7?

You may not need to convert the files at all. It depends.

But first, can you get your video from this SD card onto your computer? If so, open them in a program like Media Info and note the format (MOV, MP4) of the file as well as the resolution, frame rate and, above all, the video and audio codecs the files use.

There are many, many formats this Mac could have recorded to and even more codecs. Until we know the video's specs, we won't be able to tell you if Movie Studio can work with them.

here's what I got:

MPEG4 (MOV.) 3.21 GiB
video: AVC
audio: AAC
29 frames/seconds
16.9 at 30,000 fps

Is that enough info?

You should be able to just copy those MOV files to your hard drive and open them in Movie Studio as long as you have QuickTime for Windows installed. Without QuickTime they won't open on a PC.

I have Quicktime installed and the files will open and play with no problems but not In VMS (10).
When I get the files in and on the timeline it's all out of sync and goofed up.

I think what I need is simply an MOV to MP4 converter. Can anyone recommend a safe, adware/spamware-free version that is a free download? I went to C-net because I heard it was reputable but alot of there converter are rated poorly for malware.

If you want the best converter for creating editable video from MOV files, I'd recommend you pick up Quicktime Pro for $29.95 from Apple. That ain't free, but it's about the same as a tankful of gas and worth every penny.

and you can get that for PC? I don't have a mac but the video files that I edit are captured on a mac as MOV files.

Yes, QT Pro is available for Windows.

Before you spend $29.95 on QuickTime Pro, you might want to download the trial of Movie Studio 13.0 and see if that can play the MOV files. If it does, you can upgrade to Movie Studio 13.0 for US$49.95. There is no reason why Movie Studio shouldn't be able to play AVC/H.264 in a QuickTime MOV container other than the fact that Movie Studio 10 is quite old and maybe just doesn't support it yet.
