Either zoom optically with the camera, or shoot at a higher resolution than your finished product - i.e. 4k for HD, or HD for SD.

Added to Pete's "tips", I keep the mantra going in my head whilst shooting: "Shoot-For-The-Edit" . Meaning, Wide > Medium > CU and VCU!

Now I either do this whilst within a Take, or STOP Zoom-in and start again. This all depends on the action in front of me. If I have the option to shoot to even the the most MINIMAL of scripts: Client "I want this and that and that . . " Then I quickly mentally scope the shots which WILL include the Wide > Medium > CU and VCU. I also depend on my Manual>Auto Focus Button and my Follow focus wheel - nice!

Repeating: "Shoot-For-The-Edit"
Repeating: "Shoot-For-The-Edit"
Repeating: "Shoot-For-The-Edit"

Being a One Man amateur film crew I got the new Sony AX33 this summer just in order to record affordable 4K in 100 Mbps.
Panning and zooming within reasonable limits in that media is just quite Ok for my purposes and for a full HD delivery format (mp4 at some 25-30 Mbps).

Regrettable it is all in 4:2:0 - but it is the best obtainable for the time being and for my amateur video equipment allowance.

Hoping for some affordable 200 Mbps in-camera recording in 2016.

This might be true for you and me, but it seems that most people are perfectly happy with SD. For those on the forum who do this stuff for a living and deliver a product, every thread I've read indicates the overwhelming delivery medium is DVD, not Blu-ray.
