Better find em while you can.. and download those drivers that still work with Vegas Pro

AMD Noting quite about it. Those are oldddddddddd cards. Old drivers are still on their website & many other websites.

Yea, but those are the only cards that work with Vegas Pro MainConcept AVC GPU acceleration so no matter how old they are... you need one if you care about using the GPU for MainConcept AVC.

I have a Radeon HD 5870 that works great. I also have a Radeon HD 7950 that doesn't work at all. I believe the 6000 series should still work.

As noted they are old cards, but as you said JR - They are the only ones that work with Vegas Pro GPU acceleration for MC AVC. IIRC, the AMD cards tend to provide better timeline FPS for playback compared to nVidia cards.

Can the same be said for Catalyst Edit?

Why would you continue to use the GPU feature of the MC encoder? There have been several posts on how that mode of operation degrades your footage over AVC or MC in CPU only. Rendering out to an intermediate and then using handbrake would be a better way to a small file size.

YouTube has no effective limit to upload size and supports a wide range of professional codecs.

astar - For me - I'm still a no go on Vegas Pro TBH. A simple project I started literally crashed with half a dozen clips on the timeline. Nothing applied to them other than cuts. PUt them in PPro CS6 - got to work on the larger part of the project. PPro may not be as efficient, but it just works.

I still lurk here but I'm now wondering about Catalyst Edit more and more as the future. Vegas has let me down too many times. My desktop is more than capable of handling what I throw at it (hex core, 24GB RAM, etc) PPro CS6 just works. I can't say the same for Vegas Pro - at least for me.

I can see why you have issues with Vegas, your system specs are pretty out there, and none of the GPUs listed are even close to what Vegas demands.

You have a Xeon paired with an NV 660?? - That series of NV is rubbish to begin with, and operates very poorly with OpenCL which is a requirement of Vegas. The GFLOP performance of the 660 is good under Cuda, which is why Premier works, but NVs support of OpenCL with that model is rubbish and that shows up in apps like Vegas.

8GB of RAM and a mobile NV Quadro FX800?? - That's a Photoshop card not a video card. Vegas requires a GFLOP minimum of 1200 and that FX800 is around 115. yikes. You would get nothing but crashes if you attempted to enable GPU in Vegas.

Those configurations are no where even close to where Vegas gets good. Its like sticking a 4 cylinder in a truck and bitching that the thing has no power.

For me I have edited hour plus long multicamera projects, more than 10 layers deep, 500 or more timeline events, and Vegas is there for me all the way. There has to be something else in your workflow that does not allow you to complete even a small/short project.

Does HD5750 is one affected?

I tried driver update but the installer said my windows is not compatible.

amd-catalyst-15.7.1-with-dotnet45-win7-64bit

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

I have selected the correct platform, Windows 7 64-bit.

Doesn't effect the HD GPU's, just the pre-HD GPU's. I found that a bit confusing at first because I have an HD 7850 and I saw the 7xxx series isn't supported, but then I realized that's the OLDER 7xxx's.

astar - I ran into very similar issues with the Radeon 6970 and Catalyst drivers I have as well. After trouble shooting for close to a week, I finally gave up, reinstalled the nVidia card and went back to PPro CS6 - which again, not as speedy and efficient as Vegas Pro, but it just works - never crashed once, no matter what I throw at it. If only I could say the same thing about Vegas Pro.

Footage is either native Canon DSLR or transcoded to Cineform if I feel the need to push pixels around more for grading. If I can't get to work with those 2 options, it's not worth my time and energy.
