I was able to successfully download the software and I have a microphone all set up. What steps do I need to do to make sure that I can record my voice? Could anyone walk me through the steps since the manual is a bit confusing. Thanks in advance. |

Selecting the input device and volume level is done mostly through Windows. In Sound Forge check Options / Preferences / Audio. Under Audio Device Type see if your particular microphone is listed. If not, choose Microsoft Sound Mapper. Press the red Record button in Sound Forge. In the record window that pops up make sure "Monitor" is checked. You should see sound level meters displayed and possibly showing some audio activity. To set the level depends on what version of windows you have and which microphone you've connected and how you've connected it, none of which you've mentioned, so i'll give you some general guidelines which may work in Windows 7. Right-mouse-button click the speaker icon in your task bar and choose Recording Devices. In that window make sure your microphone is selected. Click [Properties], then the Levels panel. At this point you should be able to test the mic by speaking into it and adjusting the level slider until your loudest peaks are coming close to 0dB, but not going over it at all. We can give you a lot more useful details if we know what mic you have and how it's connected, and what version of Windows you're running. |
