vegas pro 11 rendering issues using "media fx"

hi, i'm using vegas pro 11, and am having trouble rendering videos successfully with project that contain clips with "media fx" applied. either the media fx don't get rendered, or the rendered video goes totally black at some point (though the audio remains), or some combination of both. is this an issue w/ version 11 that would resolve itself if i upgraded to 13 (and if so, can i get a discount on that, since it's the only reason i have to upgrade?), or if not, can you suggest any solutions? i've tried all the fixes for the "black render" issue i've found online, but none have worked.

What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what resolution and format is it? Are your video project properties set up to match this video?

Have you ensured you have the latest version of QuickTime and the latest drivers for your video card?

When you say "render" do you mean that you've output your video and and you're seeing this black frame issue on the final output? If so, what are you outputting it as and what media player are you using to view it on?

Windows Media Player is very limited in the formats it will play correctly. Try viewing the output video with QuickTime Player or, even better, the excellent VLC Media Player.

Hi, I use video from a variety of different sources, and that doesn't seem to be a factor. I do have all the latest quicktime/drivers/etc. And yes, the black video does get rendered- it's not just a problem w/ the playback app. This happens basically regardless of what format I render to. This is a problem many others have reported over the years, with suggestions to fix it, but none have worked for me.

There are so many possibilities: i.e. your graphics-card, its drivers, the used FX, its combination with the media, etc etc.

Using media from friends cameras I have - from time to time - had to convert that media to make it work properly - using i.e. Handbrake.

But instead of using time to investigate a problem with some 3-4 years old Version 11 software I would recommend that you get the newest version 13.

The difference is not just 2 version numbers - it is also all the updates made during the years.

With your version 11 you are entitled to get it at an upgrade price.

Yes, I know I can get it at the upgrade price, but $250 is still a bit much just to fix a bug (especially when there's no guarantee that it will actually fix my problem), because otherwise I'm happy w/ version 11 and have no immediate need for any of the additional features in version 13.

If you have GPU acceleration enabled under preferences, try disabling it. Also disable it in your render template if you use one with that feature.

Please also post your system specs and make them visible to the forum.

You can download 13 Trial, and see if it fixes your problem. If it doesn't, you are not obligated to buy.
